The Chargers signed rookie safety Tony Burnett on Tuesday, the club announced.
The club also announced it had waived-injured rookie cornerback Kenny Okoro and had waived rookie quarterback Mike Hermann. Okoro attended Wake Forest, while Hermann played at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
An undrafted rookie from Southern Cal, Burnett (6-1, 205) gives the Chargers five safeties on their roster. He will vie to make the club as a reserve. Burnett, who was named USC’s top special teams player in 2012, could help his cause with a strong showing in kick coverage.
