Colts place NT Brandon McKinney on injured reserve

The Colts have put nose tackle Brandon McKinney on injured reserve, the club said Tuesday.

McKinney, 29, missed the 2012 season after suffering an ACL tear in his left knee. It’s unclear why he’s been placed on injured reserve this season. McKinney missed practice Monday because of “swelling” in his left knee, coach Chuck Pagano said, according to the Associated Press.

McKinney (6-2, 345) signed with the Colts last year after stints with the Ravens (2008-2011) and Chargers (2006-2008) He’s appeared in 61 regular-season games, notching 60 tackles.

The Colts also disclosed they were not placing rookie linebacker C.O. Prime on waivers after previously announcing they were letting him go. However, McKinney’s placement on I.R. opened up a roster spot, which ostensibly is why Prime has returned.
