While the presumptive starter at quarterback appeared to have escaped serious harm, the Jaguars had another former quarterback on the field doing impressive things.

According to Vito Stellino of the Florida Times-Union, the Jaguars had offensive weapon Denard Robinson running Wildcat plays in practice Monday.

It was a short look, with Robinson running once, handing off and completing a pass. But putting the former Michigan quarterback on the field with running back Maurice Jones-Drew would give the Jags options with the ball, something they’ll need as they struggle to overcome a bad crop of quarterbacks.

Jaguars coach Gus Bradley used the traditional idea of forcing opponents to prepare for a special package, taking away from their prep time for the normal stuff. Though that also means the Jags are spending time working on it instead of their normal stuff, the change-up might be their best bet.

Robinson struggled with the package in OTAs, but Bradley thinks he has a shot to succeed.

“We did it in OTAs and a couple of times he ran the ball and fumbled the ball and he didn’t know how to pitch,’’ Bradley said. “We’re not going to give up on that. [Offensive coordinator] Jedd’s [Fisch] philosophy is to get it in the playmaker’s hands and we want to see if he’s a playmaker and the threat he can give us.

“If he’s willing to put in the time in like he is and really understand the concepts and what’s important to us, then he’s got a good chance.’’

The Jaguars also want to work him into the return game, anything to get him involved.

If nothing else, any snap he’s taking is one Blaine Gabbert or Chad Henne isn’t, and that can’t be the worst thing.
