Eagles re-sign wide receiver Nick Miller

The Eagles plan to replace Jeremy Maclin from within after losing the wide receiver for the season to a knee injury, but there’s still a roster spot to fill and the Eagles did it by adding a wide receiver on Tuesday.

The team announced Tuesday that they have re-signed Nick Miller and placed Maclin on injured reserve. Miller was signed to the roster in January and released on July 24, but the Maclin injury has led the Eagles to reverse course.

Miller hasn’t played in the NFL since 2011 when he was with the Rams. He played six games, caught one pass and returned a punt 88 yards for a touchdown. Miller also had three catches for the Raiders in 2010 while serving as their punt returner, but was released by the Rams early in 2012 and never caught on elsewhere.

All of which should tell you that Miller’s not likely to step into Maclin’s shoes on the offense, although his punt return skills could give the Eagles another option at that spot instead of having DeSean Jackson pull double duty.
