Rams wearing 1999 throwback uniforms twice this season

NFC CHAMPIONSHIP AP

Well, this is cool.

The Rams announced Tuesday they will wear 1999 replica uniforms for regular-season games against Tennessee on November 3 and Tampa Bay on December 22.

The 1999 Rams defeated the Buccaneers in the NFC title game in St. Louis and bested the Titans in Super Bowl XXXIV in Atlanta.

“Some of our fans’ greatest memories involve the Buccaneers and Titans games from the 1999 postseason, and this is a great way to celebrate those pinnacle moments in franchise history while wearing the colors of the 1999 championship team,” Rams executive V.P. of football operations / C.O.O. Kevin Demoff said in a statement released by the club.

The Titans’ head coach in that Super Bowl, of course, was now-current Rams head coach Jeff Fisher. Forgive him if he doesn’t fondly remember Mike Jones’ tackle of Kevin Dyson.

But back to our main point: were those ever cool uniforms.

    Playing like it’s 1999.

will the rams’ starting qb go down with a season ending injury as well?

  3. vdogg says: Jul 30, 2013 5:04 PM

Is ’99 actually considered “throw back”…?

  4. anicra says: Jul 30, 2013 5:07 PM

Rams are just getting ready to wear the jerseys from the old LA Rams days…before they move back in a year.

  5. eagles512 says: Jul 30, 2013 5:09 PM

Just go back to them. Please! Went from top 10 uniform to bottom 5.

Bucs held that Rams team to 11 points. 7 of it coming in the last few min. Rams D wasn’t anything to brag about, but the Bucs offense was just that bad. Bucs offense lost that game. Then again, they only made it that far in the first place due to their historically good defense. In any case, I like the Rams old unis better anyway, they should wear them for 16 games.

Well I don’t know about these, but I’m looking forward to seeing Carolina wear their all black uniform, which was was voted by the fans as the greatest uniform in NFL history.

Who cares about these when we can talk about the best?

  9. Tadd says: Jul 30, 2013 5:17 PM

These uniforms are better than the bland garbage they wear currently.

    Ditto for Patriots and Eagles.

Credit to the Rams for at least grasping the obvious: if you’re going to trot out the throwbacks, it often wouldn’t hurt to trot out a decent-looking one from a period of glory. My Steelers keep running out the most hideous throwbacks of all time – yet never run out the classic Black & Gold gear of the 70’s-90’s.

  11. ampats says: Jul 30, 2013 5:17 PM

That’s nice for the people of St.Louis because after the 2014 season, the Rams will be playing again in the city they played in before 1995 .

    Party like its 1999!

  13. bucrightoff says: Jul 30, 2013 5:21 PM

Damn how great was that Bucs D in 1999? Held the Greatest Show on Turf to 11 points in their home building.

  14. schmitty2 says: Jul 30, 2013 5:24 PM

I wish they would wear them more. When ever they have worn them in the last few years they have won.

  15. tennesseeoilers says: Jul 30, 2013 5:32 PM

Wow … Can’t imagine what that will be like for Jeff Fisher. The last time the Rams wore those uniforms, Fisher’s boys came up 1 yard short.

13 years later, the pain lingers,
    Titans Fan

  16. decon49 says: Jul 30, 2013 5:37 PM

they have to wear these when they play the niners. old school nfc west style

  17. tennesseeoilers says: Jul 30, 2013 5:38 PM

Now that I think about it, I can’t help but wonder what the Super Bowl would’ve been like if the Bucs had pulled out that NFC Championship game. Might Steve McNair have been the Super Bowl MVP? (Just one year earlier he bolted for a 71-yard TD run and a victory against those Bucs.) And if so, how different would McNair’s legacy have been?

  18. mlmeier says: Jul 30, 2013 5:40 PM

Yes! They should make the change permanent, especially if they end up returning to Los Angeles.

  19. trollhammer20 says: Jul 30, 2013 5:51 PM

Bring back the blue and white, Roman-Gabriel era unis from the late 60s.

  20. peoplesrepublic0fdabayarea says: Jul 30, 2013 5:55 PM

“Well I don’t know about these, but I’m looking forward to seeing Carolina wear their all black uniform which, THE ONLY TIME IT WAS EVER WORN WAS WHEN DENVER BLASTED THEM AT HOME LAST YEAR, voted by the LOSER fans WHO HAVE NO LIVES IN CAROLINA as the greatest uniform in NFL history.”

    Sincerely,

    The San Francisco 49ers

  21. bigdogslsbs says: Jul 30, 2013 5:59 PM

Yes please go back to the old uniforms. At least wear they on all home games they are one of the best from yesteryear. I been a fan starting in 1960 when I was 5 years old. Seen at lot not much more time left so go back in honor of ( Deacon Jones ) all time best.

  22. morgusthemagnificent says: Jul 30, 2013 6:02 PM

Great Move… in my humble opinion those were some of the best looking uniforms in the NFL.. i especially liked the way they shined in the afternoon sun in LA.

Too many teams are going to the awful black on black or metallic colors — looks like they belong in the arena league or div iii.

NFL uni’s that get the Morgus stamp of approval (in no particular order):

saints (with GOLD pants of course)
    Niners
Buffalo (1 of 3 that have made an excellent change)
    Oakland
    INDY
    Rams (yellow and blue)
    giants
    cowboys
    New England (the throwback)
    jets
    browns
titans (i mean the old oilers!!)
    chiefs
    Washington (2 of 3)
    bears
    green bay
    Pittsburgh
    San Diego (3 of 3)

  23. bmue42 says: Jul 30, 2013 6:02 PM

those are just as ugly, they need to go back to the blue and white

  24. beavertonsteve says: Jul 30, 2013 6:04 PM

They Rams have been looking at a couple different throwbacks once their commitment to the 99’s is up. Obviously the white and blues are a popular choice, but it sounds like they are entertaining the black and vertical red 1937 Cleveland Rams uniforms as well.

  25. kingpel says: Jul 30, 2013 6:04 PM

Two great wins in franchise history. That Bucs game will always be my favorite since I was living in Tampa at the time. Our defense rose to the occasion that day and our offense hit the big play when they needed to. It was a great day to be a Ram fan in Tampa!

  26. 737driver69 says: Jul 30, 2013 6:10 PM

Well that is not going to win them any games, as long as Fisher is still coaching the team.

  27. latrobe21 says: Jul 30, 2013 6:34 PM

Cool would be the blue and white uniforms worn when they were the Los Angeles Rams.

  28. beavertonsteve says: Jul 30, 2013 6:35 PM

I’m having a tough time thinking of the last time uniform choice won ANY coach a game.

  29. mullman76 says: Jul 30, 2013 6:47 PM

In my opinion this is one of the best looking uniforms of all-time.

The Raiders still have the #1 spot locked up with the Silver and Black.

  30. kane337 says: Jul 30, 2013 6:52 PM

Move them to LA and make those unis permanent.

  31. garyhd01 says: Jul 30, 2013 7:28 PM

I say wear the 99 jerseys for every game except when they play the niners then wear the old black and whites except for a few years in the 80s we kicked their ass in the old black and whites but the bright blue and gold are by far a much better looking uniform

  32. emperorzero says: Jul 30, 2013 7:46 PM

No idea why they abandoned the blue and yellow jerseys. Those were sharp.

  33. kingpel says: Jul 30, 2013 8:34 PM

When they were both in LA their color schemes reflected their fan bases perfectly.

I really, really enjoy the Rams throwbacks. Brings back so many happy memories of them getting WAXED by the 9ers in Anaheim and Candlestick

  35. docboss says: Jul 30, 2013 9:41 PM

Rams have suffered since taking ND colors. Make the 1999 colors permanent.

  36. thebigtim2012 says: Jul 30, 2013 10:11 PM

A 1999 “throwback”? Either I’m that old or that’s just silly. In my humble opinion it shouldn’t be called a throwback unless its pre 1985.

  37. blueberrymuffin11 says: Jul 30, 2013 11:33 PM

Any throwback jersey has to be better than the Steelers’ prison bumblebee get up from last season!
