Carlos Dunlap out of practice after suffering concussion

The Bengals just signed defensive end Carlos Dunlap to a long-term extension, which is a sign of how much they want him on the field in 2013 and beyond.

For now, though, Dunlap is just an observer at practice. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Dunlap is not practicing with the rest of the team on Wednesday because of a concussion he suffered in practice this week.

There’s no word on his prognosis beyond being out “for now,” but, as we’ve learned over the last few years, there isn’t much more of a prognosis to give. Dunlap will need to stay on the sideline until he’s no longer having symptoms and is cleared by doctors, something that can’t be rushed in the heart of a season. So it certainly won’t be rushed in the summer when the Bengals are more than a month away from their first meaningful game.

Once he is back, Dunlap will get to work on making the Bengals look good for giving him that aforementioned six-year, $40 million deal.
