D.J. Williams has “week-to-week” calf injury

The Bears were in the middle of a transition at middle linebacker anyway, and now they’re going to be without the guy they were transitioning to.

According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, linebacker D.J. Williams was not at practice today, and has a calf injury that was described as “week to week.”

Usually, if a team goes beyond the old reliable “day-to-day” designation, it’s a reasonably serious injury.

The Bears signed Williams this offseason to help replace retired legend Brian Urlacher, but his deal contains no guaranteed money. That puts Williams in a precarious spot, as second-rounder Jon Bostic will now get a shot at that job.

What’s the deal with calf injuries at the Bears’ camp anyway? Were Williams and Bushrod hiding behind the Gatorade dispenser during warm-ups?

Chicago’s defense will be fine as always. but Trestman needs to slow it down out there. we dont want a m.a.s.h unit by pre season

I’d like to see Bostic win the job outright, anyway.

Besides DJ Williams off the field issues and some Injuries here and there, he has been a pretty good linebacker in the NFL. I wouldn’t mind putting Bostic in the middle and moving Dj to the outside where he originally played, Briggs, Bostic, and Williams would be a pretty intimidating core of LB’s. No matter what the defense will be fine, just need to get this offense up and running and hopefully Cutler plays like he can in his contract year. Bear Down.

Agreed…And you idea of moving Williams outside makes semse.
