Giants worked out Lawrence Vickers

It’s hard out there for a fullback.

After Vonta Leach’s “Summer of Vonta” tour ended with him returning to the Ravens at a reduced rate, other fullbacks are finding it tougher.

Conor Orr of the Newark Star Ledger reports that the Giants worked out former Cowboys fullback Lawrence Vickers recently, but didn’t sign him.

Of course, Vickers is coming off back surgery, and they signed fullback Ryan D’Imperio instead.

Vickers was cut by the Cowboys earlier this offseason when they decided not to have any fullbacks at all.

With so many teams going to two-tight end offenses, guys like Vickers are going to continue to have a harder time finding a spot.

They never seriously courted Vonta Leach. Vet minimum ‘take it or leave it’ offer.

Vickers was a dissapointment for Dallas last year as they had one of their weakest running games ever. It wasn’t all on Vickers for sure but he doesn’t seem to be the FB he once was.

I miss the day of badass fullbacks like Mack Strong and Lorenzo Neal being the keystone of physical offenses.

Heis a great fullback. Other than the fact that he can’t catch a cold if he was in his tidy whities in the middle of a blizzard in Alaska he is great at what he does. He blocks well, always finds the right someone to hit. Just don’t ask or expect him to catch. As long as he stays in his lane the Giants have a good player, but his hands…stone hands.

Interested to see what this guy has left in him. If at all…

He was BELOVED in Cleveland. Laid the wood…

It’s good to see the Giants bringing in new blood. They need guys who are hungry. Vickers always has been tough against the Giants and any guy who got toughened up by Jerry Jones is good to have on a team.

Actually Vickers has decent hands, The problem was he didn’t create any space with his blocking. The days of the gangsta pound you in the mouth fullback are definitely behind us
