The Dolphins have made multiple transactions to cover injuries to the middle portion of their wide receiver depth chart.

But they’re not saying anything about the absences at the top.

According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the team’s not saying anything about why free agent addition Mike Wallace isn’t practicing.

Wallace didn’t participate in team drills Wednesday night, after doing individual drills. He also didn’t participate in Monday’s scrimmage, but coach Joe Philbin has refused to discuss his status.

Brian Hartline has also missed some time, apparently with a leg injury. Hartline declined to comment on his situation, saying not scrimmaging Monday “was coach’s decision — nothing to do with me.”

Their absences leave Brandon Gibson and Marvin McNutt as the first-team receivers.

The Dolphins have lost Armon Binns for the season, Rishard Matthews for a few weeks with a knee problem, and have signed three wideouts in the past four days.

But they have been mysteriously quiet about Wallace’s situation. After Monday’s scrimmage, Philbin didn’t take questions from reporters, sending out quotes via the team’s PR staff instead, none of them about Wallace. At some point, considering what they invested in Wallace, you’d think they’d like to explain what’s going on.
