Lions move on from Ricardo Silva

Silva AP

Lions safety Ricardo Silva worked on getting faster in the offseason.  And now he’s quickly leaving the team.

The Lions have released Silva, according to Chris McCosky of the Detroit News.  Silva started six games last season, his second in the NFL.

Also gone is defensive tackle Spencer Nealy.

Replacing them are safety Trevor Coston and defensive tackle Xavier Proctor.

    Released by the Loins! How humiliating!

    They are assembling a championship quality team up there in the D. Let’s hope that they can put it all together! GO LIONS!

    Veteran additions Glover Quin and Chris Hope have eaten up 2 spots that were available last year, tough numbers for him to have beat. He could be a good pickup for somebody that has a lot of room for a cheap and young player.

    With WRs running 4.4 or better, Silva’s 4.6 is not good enough to keep up, let alone close if he gets beat.

    Coston is as fast or faster… than most receivers he’ll cover.

    I like it.

    When you cant even last a full TC with the Lions, the Detroit Lions then you got to be pretty bad.looks like the Lions really are getting rid of the dead weight this time but should the other North teams fear them this year, dont think so.

    I thought this was the year he really makes a big improvement in coverage I hate when we cut young players for old watched up veterans like Chris Hope the guy sucks & I hope he doesn’t set foot on the field. We always some how seem to pick up these old guys past there prime like Mark Carrier, Todd Lyght, Drayton Florence just to name a few

    I love how people are saying the other NFCN teams shouldn’t fear the Lions. This team was 10-6 two years ago and a playoff team. They’re deeper on both sides of the ball then they were that year. The only real question mark is the O-Line which I believe will be fine. This team I believe is better then both the Bears and Vikings.

    Unfortunately Green Bay is much deeper as well and the Lions still have the disaster Schwartz as a head coach.
    It might be interesting to see the Lions and Bears contest for 2nd place.

    @irishgary:

    I think the Vikings are a bigger threat than Chicago. Ponder will be much improved this year. The Bears are working out a number of transitional issues on offense and defense. They’re talking about running the read option with Cutler, whom they haven’t even decided to bring back in a year. Not a fun time for Bears fans.

    And I love Schwartz. Why? If Packer fans hate him then he must be doing something right.
