Asa Jackson gets 8-game PED suspension

Asa Jackson AP

Ravens cornerback Asa Jackson now has two strikes.

The league announced Jackson was suspended eight games for a second violation of the league’s policy on performance enhancing substances. He served a four-game suspension for his first violation last year.

“I was diagnosed with a condition that can be treated with a medication allowed under the NFL/NFLPA policy after a player obtains a therapeutic use exemption,” Jackson said in a statement, via the Baltimore Sun. “I now have the required approval, but the positive test occurred before it was approved. The policy is very strict, so I have chosen to be immediately accountable.

“I sincerely apologize to my teammates, coaches, and Ravens fans. I look forward to working hard in training camp and preseason, training hard during the discipline period and contributing to the team immediately upon my return.”

Both suspensions, according to the report, are for Adderall.

A fifth-round pick last year, Jackson can still participate in training camp and the preseason, but then won’t be eligible until Nov. 4.

Of course, there’s also the possibility the Ravens might decide to not bother with him, as the Colts did when they waived Weslye Saunders after his eight-game suspension was announced.

Gimmie a break. A little drug use isn’t going to blacklist him from this team. That’s not how it works in Baltimore. He’d be gone if he was on the Steelers (Santonio), but JH is eager to turn a bling eye, especially on a cornerback.

Tomlin would’ve whipped his a$% first, then kicked him off the team.

Adderall is used by players on every team in the league, don’t kid yourselves. It works differently for those with ADHD than those without — That’s why the league comes down hard on those w/out a valid prescription because, for those players, it would be a competitive advantage.

Kid’s a 5th round pick with two strikes. Ozzie will show him the door soon. Very soon.

For the uninformed, since Bruce Irvin tested positive for what was presumed to be Adderall two months ago, many league suspensions have occurred since then and none have involved the Seahawks. Do a better job of hiding your ignorance and stop posting crap about the Seahawks and Pete Carroll unless backed up by facts.

The Seahawks are no better, or worse, than the other teams — Very little control over what players elect to put in their bodies. They post guidelines and hope that the players accept responsibility.

You mad bro? You forgot to mention that the players who ended your choke artist QBs season are still on our roster. Graham had 2 picks, and Flacco+Torrey Smith torched your “elite” defense. Relax, I know it must be tough going almost 20 years w/o a Ring. Ravens fans can’t relate.

to answer a few questions, yes I’m mad bro ! wouldn’t you be if you had to listen to fans brag about a season that after week’s 15 and there 3rd strait loss. Ravens nation had already thrown your playoff chances under the bus. Secondly I can say you choked the Super Bowl because once again you were 1 lucky goalline stand away from choking a 28-6 lead. Lastly brag all you want, us undelusional ones watched how fortunate(lucky) you were to get out of the 1st round of the playoffs let alone how lucky you were to win the SB. As well sorry to break it to you but your Ravens are screwed this year…you added 1 good off season pick up Canty…how you replace the other 8 players, Dumervil ? really? I recommend you do some research on his stats…avgs 10 sacs a year and that’s with Von Miller takeing all the double teams, and you paid 7 million a year for him…and Huff to replace Reed….Huff is a bum…I’ve had the pleasure to see him get burned twice a year here. To Ravens fans this year, an 8-8 season will be concidered a remarkable year. I’m predicting someing in the ball park of 4 -12.

  39. barbasol11111111 says: Aug 2, 2013 5:50 PM

Every team in the salary cap era needs a miracle or two to win. That’s how parity works, stupid.

  40. barbasol11111111 says: Aug 2, 2013 6:00 PM

Actually the ravens dominated in the wild card and divisional championship

Denver also got pretty lucky with two special teams tds against what was ranked the best ST in football. I just got my road to the Super Bowl DVDs and watching it again, ayanbadejoade just as bad a decision as Moore when he totally over pursued and let the play get behid him. I’d love to see the percentage of teams who won after their special teams put up two TDs. I’m sure it’s in the high 90s. They were getting gifts all over the place and still couldn’t get it done. Lets not act like the broncos dominated them minus a few lucky breaks.

Also, I’m pretty sure that if you never give up the lead, it doesn’t count as choking up a lead, right? You’d have to lose to be a choker, not become SB champs.

Look I get being butthurt, I’ve had my fair share of it, but this team won te Super Bowl fair and square. Ive watched them lose on flukier stuff than a botched coverage (which happens often, and us ravens fans lived through cundiff, so please excuse us if we arent making apologies for our awesome team). The league is great because of parity, field an excellent team for long enough (which no one can argue the ravens haven’t been a model franchise over the last five years) and eventually the breaks go your way (unless your the bills or eagles I guess).

4 major plays lead to the seeding and SB win. 4&29, lack if tackling on a screen pass and a bad spot. Jones punt return against the steelers. The safety who took the worst angle possible, 99 out if 100 times a safety takes the right path then its 50-50 if they INT/swat the ball or make the tackle if the WR makes the catch. Smith not being called for pass interference or holding in the end zone, the guy fad the arm wrapped up. A loss in SD would’ve put the bengles with the division and ravens with a wildcard. A loss in Pittsburgh, ravens would’ve been at home watching the steelers.

That said, it doesn’t matter. Things went the way if the ravens and you can’t take it away from them. This years defense will be better, the offense will drop. Could be a long season for them, but I still feel they can win 9.

I said it the other day

What is this the 3rd time in barely over a year? What a complete waste of a 5th rounder. Clearly he doesn’t have what it takes to be on the team. If Ozzie has some sense he’ll flush this cheating turd and give some rookies a chance to get his 5 cornerback slot.

  48. scoobies05 says: Aug 2, 2013 6:44 PM

jb, im not going to say that the ravens, like any superbowl winning team, didnt catch some lucky breaks on the way. but to say that it all came down to four plays is an insult. what about all of the other plays that occur over the coutse of a season. do the ravens get credit for any of those? did the steelers not have any luck on their side on their runs? and to larrydavid and the other skins fans commenting on asa jacksonnnnlast i saw the skins and seahawks were tied with most ped suspensions. so let the fans of the teams thay have won 4 of the last 13 superbowls talk and you guys try and win a playoff game

  49. barbasol11111111 says: Aug 2, 2013 6:46 PM

You can’t pick and choose data. Those four plays that you say decided the ravens season are buried under 1000s of pounds of other circumstantial single plays. You can cherry pick events in any way you like.

Just because i know you’ve thought about this for the past 6 months, what are 4 plays the steelers COULD have made to win the superbowl last year??? You have to have at least 4 excuses for why the steelers weren’t world champs right?

  54. judsonjr says: Aug 2, 2013 7:10 PM

The below is probably the case for most teams. I mean I am a Packer fan, but the biggest break in their 2010 run had nothing to do with the Packers being great.

In week 15 that year they were in a scenario where their playoff chances would be almost 0 if the Giants and Buccaneers won. With 8 minutes left the Giants were up 21 points. With less than 2 minutes left, the Bucs were up 3 on Detriot with Drew Stanton at QB. In the end, the Bucs and Giants ended up losing.

This let the Packers absorb a loss to New England without Aaron Rodgers, and then still control their own destiny by winning the last 2 weeks at home.

Well you can pick any if the 8 turnovers against Cleveland, the failed punt coverage against the ravens, giving up late leads against the titans and raiders, and most importantly they needed to get into the playoffs.

Picking those four plays was intended to show the 4 biggest plays that continued the season. Someone made the comment the other day that the ravens could’ve beat the bengles in the final game if needed, but I would beg to differ. They started 9-2 and finished 1-4, they came close to collapsing. Ray gave the team the motivation they needed by announcing his retirement early, then went on to have the most postseason tackles to lead that defense.

Say what you want about the aging if reed and lewis, the loss of that leadership is going to hurt.

To the guy who listed Elam as a key replacement, he’s an unproven rookie. All he has right now is potential.

Wow Broncos fans accusing the Ravens of almost choking?

First off that’s the equivalent of saying “yeah well all you did was score more points than we did!”

But honestly a Broncos fan accusing the Ravens of choking? I honestly hope you just started watching football last year because that could be the only way something that stupid would come to mind. Shall we start with John Elway’s Super Bowl record before Terrell Davis (your all time leading rusher with only 3 seasons and league MVP) or just the AFC championship nightmares against teams not located in Cleveland?

Or maybe we can talk about your Qb. You know the one who’s the greatest of all time? Except in his lone Superbowl Run he threw 3 Tds versus 7 Ints. Against Trent Green, A half dead Steve McNair, Reche Caldwell’s Patriots and Rex Grossman. Look it up if you don’t believe me, but Dominique Rhodes was more instrumental in that run.

And you do realize Dumervil played in the league for three years before Von miller showed up, and has gone against Left Tackles the whole time. Those are the more athletic ones as most teams place a premium on protecting a QBs blindside, something Von has yet to attack. Or get double teamed.

But yeah it’s karma that our fifth round pick a year ago is suspended…say what do you call your free agent big acquisition getting a high ankle sprain (an injury that generally takes 6-8 weeks to fully heal)?

“Steeler trolls should Google “Steeler” and “PEDs” and see what they find.”

OMG! You’re exactly right! They were the pioneers of PED use according to the articles. They even had a crooked doctor! And Looney still won’t admit it. Take away those rings! All of them.

Or the 30+ years the Browns went without a championship before being shipped to Baltimore because after all, without the Browns there would be no Ravens. (I intend no disrepect to Browns fans because they are the one of the most loyal fans in football, unlike hypocritical Ravens fans that only started to root for them after the Redskins faltered and the Ravens won their 1st Super Bowl. How else could you root for a team stolen from Cleveland when the Colts were stolen from Baltimore a dozen years earlier?
