Brent Grimes excited for return to game action

It has been almost a year since Dolphins cornerback Brent Grimes has played in a game, which means he’s approaching Sunday’s preseason opener against the Cowboys a little differently than some veterans.

Playing in the Hall of Fame Game means an extra exhibition game and plenty of veterans would just as soon take the night off than put themselves on the field five times in games that don’t count. For Grimes, though, playing his first game since tearing his Achilles in Week One last year is something to savor even if he’ll just be playing a series or two before heading back to the bench.

“Yeah, it’s cool because I was out and missed all of last year,” Grimes said, via James Walker of “I’ve been doing this [practice] but it’s not the same as actually going in a game. So it’s going to be fun, even though it’s going to be brief probably.”

Grimes said he’s “feeling real good,” which is good news for the Dolphins after last year’s troubles stopping the pass. Grimes and second-round pick Jamar Taylor were added to the roster in hopes of turning things around on that front, something that’s a lot more likely to happen if Grimes is 100 percent physically.

  1. GrimeTime will be a huge boost to this defense. He is highly underrated and was loved in Atlanta. If healthy, he will have 6+ picks this year.

  2. Going to miss him in ATL. Glad he went to an AFC team instead of the Bucs.

Off the field he is a nice enough guy to take a pic with my kids in WalMart when I happened to bump into him in an aisle.

I think the Dolphins will be happy.

  3. Between him and Clabo I might have to send the Falcons an Edible Arrangment. They really seem like quality people and players. Hopefully their health holds up because it must have taken a lot for the Falcons to let them go.

  4. Really happy to have this guys as part of our secondary,a little undersized but plays much bigger, can’t wait til Sept 8th in Cleveland…FINS UP!

  5. I didn’t get the chance to see him play too much in Atlanta. But, I’ve seen him in several camps and he is unbelievable!!

  6. What I will say about Grimes as a Falcon fan, if you look at his highlights he was always great with a vanilla style defense and terrible in man coverage. He constantly got abused when we played the Saints and other elite WR. When we gave him the tag that was mistake.. Good Luck Miami…

  7. Hopefully he can hold up. Great corner but he has been made of glass since his 2010 breakout campaign.

Had everything from little nagging injuries to the big injuries.

  8. Huge signing for the Fins. Underrated defense will open some eyes this season if Grimes stays healthy and Dion provides a nice compliment to Wake. Potential top 5 unit.

  9. Hands down, success of our season depends on this dude stepping up and showing the young’ns how it’s done.
