Nate Livings needs another knee surgery

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo passes against the Washington Redskins in Arlington, Texas Reuters

It’s summertime and Nate Livings isn’t living easy.

Todd Archer of ESPNDallas.com reports that the Cowboys guard needs to have surgery on his right knee for the second time in six months. Livings had surgery in February, hurt the knee again during spring work and was able to return to the field during training camp before this latest setback.

Archer pegs the recovery time at two-to-four weeks, the outside edge of which would put Livings, slated to start at left guard,  right up against the start of the season. With Livings out, the Cowboys might not have much choice but to look outside the organization for interior line help. Mackenzy Bernadeau, the prospective right guard, hasn’t practiced since hurting his hamstring during the team’s conditioning test and reserve Kevin Kowalski is out for up to a month with a bruised knee.

The Cowboys signed a pair of offensive linemen this week, but neither James Nelson nor Jeff Olsen is a surefire option should the expected starters fail to recover in time for the season. That helps explain why the Cowboys have been linked to veteran guard Brian Waters and why they’re likely to be connected to other available linemen in the coming days and weeks.

Broken down never should have been in a uniform. He certainly hasn’t done anything to live up to the price the Cowboys paid for him in FA last year. Even if it were $5.

now in the Cowboys won’t be to run the ball r give Romo time to throw. Hisnow will be a top ten quarterback not a top 5 and everybody will talk smack how they overpaid Romo… always his fault!

I was amazed and discouraged when Jerry didn’t draft a guard. They have guys who aren’t that good and can’t hold up. Now Frederick the center they drafted may need to play guard.

O-line and D-line are dropping like flies already. Guess Jerry didn’t realize depth is a necessity when having more than adequate opportunities to address issues such as this in the draft.

Keep an eye on ex-Bengal OG Travelle Wharton. Decent interior guy – just needs to get his contractual demands in line with the market, but the sand running out of the hourglass might accelerate that process.
