Buccaneers running back Peyton Hillis spent months on the open market. He could end up back there soon.
The Buccaneers’ depth chart has been posted at the team’s website, and Hillis is listed behind Doug Martin, Brian Leonard, and Mike James at tailback.
To no surprise, rookie Mike Glennon is the No. 2 quarterback, behind Josh Freeman and ahead of veteran Dan Orlovsky.
On defense, Leonard Johnson leads Johnthan Banks at right cornerback, and Cody Grimm has earned (so far) the second-string strong safety spot behind Mark Barron.
As pointed out by the folks at JoeBucsFan.com, coach Greg Schiano said last year that depth charts don’t mean all that much. Still, it’s a ranking of players at a time when there previously was no way to draw lines among the men on the roster.
For the guys at the bottom of the list at the various positions, they may not be on the roster much longer.
