The 49ers appear ready to add yet another veteran pass catcher to their receiving corps.

The club is expected to sign former Patriots and Titans wide receiver Lavelle Hawkins, Ben Volin of the Boston Globe reported Friday. The Pats released Hawkins earlier this week.

Hawkins, like Austin Collie, worked out for San Francisco on Friday, and now, both look like they will compete for roster spots in San Francisco, which has some uncertainty beyond Anquan Boldin at wide receiver.

Hawkins, 27, played for the Titans from 2008 through 2012 before joining New England this offseason. His most productive season was in 2011, when he caught 47 passes for 470 yards and one touchdown.

A Cal product, the 5-foot-11, 194-pound Hawkins has caught 71 passes for 771 yards and one TD in his NFL career.
