Seahawks agree to terms with WR Early Doucet

The Seahawks strengthened their veteran wideout depth on Friday, agreeing on a deal with ex-Cardinal Early Doucet, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Friday.

According to Rapoport, Doucet will receive a one-year contract.

Doucet, 27, caught 28 passes for 207 yards in 12 games (three starts) for Arizona in 2012. The previous season, Doucet set career highs in catches (54), yards (689) and touchdowns (five) for the Cardinals.

Doucet (6-0, 212) was a third-round pick of Arizona in 2008 out of LSU and spent five seasons with the Cards, catching 139 passes for 1,491 yards and seven touchdowns. Arizona released him in March.

In Seattle, Doucet will vie for a complementary role behind starters Golden Tate and Sidney Rice. Moreover, Doug Baldwin is likely to be the third receiver, leaving Doucet to compete for a spot further down the depth chart. The Seahawks will be without Percy Harvin (hip) to begin the regular season, which helps Doucet’s chances of sticking on the roster.

  1. great pick up. what or how do you guys smoke that stuff. This guy has been relevant for the past 2 years. Know your football seagull fan and calm down.

  2. Niners-Boldin, Hawks-Harvin
    Niners-Asomugha, Hawks- Winfield
    Hawks-Swain
    Niners- Collie, Hawks- Doucet

Who did I miss and how can this get more ridiculous

  3. The only stipulation Early Doucet had in signing with a new team is, He refuses to sign in the same division as Dashon Goldson. Because Dashon makes him urinate his pants.

  4. @girthbrooks2013 I’ll agree he was underused and didnt have the best QBs the past three or so years, but he made those QBs look bad with those dropped passes.

With the playoffs on the line in 2011 vs. Cincy, he dropped a pass on third down where he could’ve took it to the house.

Thats when Fitzgeralds dad blasted him on twitter (Who doesnt he blast though right?).

Anyway, I’ll pull for him since he was a Cardinal. Unless they’re playing my squad.

  5. Niners fans apparently are just like GB fans. You have your mean little jabs about our empty trophy cases. Karma, will get you guys, sooner or later. My team will win a superbowl, and many more soon enough, and it starts by dominating the team in Wisconsin. Same goes for Seattle.

    Deal with it, meanies.

  6. OK with the championship posts niner fans. Lets make comments about our teams in say the last DECADE. You can reminisce about the glory days with your fathers

  7. As a Cardinal fan I like to say he was a solid pick up.
    He was injured often
He made one nice play over the middle versus Green Bay in the playoffs
Look out for injuries he is made of glass
Lots of muscle but can’t take a hit
Bet he’s injured before the season starts…sorry but fact is a fact

  8. Lol Hawk fans are the most pathetic fanbase in the league. Praising about signing Doucet after smearing the Niners signing of Collie. Hilarious.

  9. I don’t like the pick up…We drafted Chris Harper and young guys like Phil Bates/ Jermaine Kearse need a chance for that 4th roster spot to see what they have because we have been developing those guys. Doucet had many chance to be 2nd or 3rd man behind Fitz. He showed some flashes but still hasn’t got consistency you need. John Schneider has far more hits than misses so I should trust that.

  10. Well, I’ll at least hand it to Seattle for being smart enough to not follow suit with the Willis/Culliver injuries…..

  11. @ jtbaudendistel

    Your move niners?

In the event you didn’t know, we signed Austin Collie well before Seattle signed Doucet……

  12. @themackstrong…… agreed. I wondered if maybe this was a signing to let the youngsters know they need to get to work as opposed to a vision of him cracking the top 4.

Watch the cardinals end up taking the division…LOL just kidding

I agree. I just don’t see what will make Seattle soooo good. Weak at receiver and weak at other skill positions. We’ll see, but it will probably be about like last year minus the gimme against GB. I see a lot of losses on that schedule.

  14. Good pickup for competition and depth. Not confident he will make the team, but am confident he will make the final, selected, overall team better…..Nothing works better than competition.

  15. Amazing. That great Seahawk team and fans that think they’re the best in the NFL have no problems picking up the Cardinals trash.

  16. This is all about keeping him away from the 9rs training camp. If no injuries in the preseason he won’t make the final cut. Unless he outperforms the young guys.

  17. FOR ALL YA’LL HATER,EARLY IS A DAMN GOOD WR. AND I KNOW HE’S GOING TO HOLD IT DOWN FOR HIS TEAM AND FOR THE ONE THAT SAYS HE MADE OF GLASS,HE MIGHT HAVE BEEN HURT BUT I RESPECT HIM CUZ HE GETS UP AND KEEP ON FIGHTING AND PLAYING WITH HEART AND THAT WHAT MAKES HIM A GOOD FOOTBALL PLAYER.

Maybe it’s the #1 defense in the league last year as far as points allowed that only got stronger by adding Avril, Bennett, and Winfield. Weak at other skill positions? You mean like qb and running back? Yeah Wilson, Lynch/Turbin/Michael are really weak. Returning the same set of receivers as last year + Harvin toward the middle of the year. I understand as an opposing fan, you don’t want to be complimentary of the Seahawks. But at least be realistic. They’re a solid team that only got better in the offseason.
