Steelers add D’Anthony Batiste

Though the Pittsburgh Steelers have improved significantly along the offensive line in recent years, they’re still trying to get better.

The latest step comes from veteran D’Anthony Batiste.  The Steelers announced that Batiste has joined the team via a one-year contract.

Batiste, 31, has appeared in 37 games with 14 starts during an NFL career that has taken him from Dallas to Carolina to Atlanta to Washington to Denver and to Arizona.  Last year, Batiste appeared in 12 games for the Cardinals, starting 10.

The Steelers cleared a roster spot by placing rookie guard Nik Embernate on the waived/injured list.  He recently suffered a torn ACL and MCL.

Just because they signed him doesn’t mean that they will keep him. We have 4 preseason games yet to play.

Un-educated fans of other teams are forgetting hes not slotted as the starter. I understand 100% why you would hate the only team with 6, however, jumping the gun on pre- pre-season is a bit uneducated.

You can never have too many O-Linemen in the NFL.

    That was my immediate reaction…

The Steelers found somebody old to sign

This should solidify that line for years to come.

Thats why coach ordered the lineman to wear knee braces. After watching Decastro go down last preseason who can blame him. This line has to make it. there is no Depth with them cutting willie colon and Maxwell smart Starks on line one they are Gutted and thats it

There is NO way that guy can make that roster. I saw him play every game last year and he was one of the worst offensive linemen I have ever seen. Take into consideration that I’m a lifelong Cardinals fan, so I’ve seen some pretty bad ones.

Sucks that happened to embernate sounded like there was some potential. Never hurts to add some veteran depth

Ben still won’t last the whole season.

The rosters are at 90, and will be cut to 53 by the first game. You lose a guard, you sign a guard.

He is a camp body to use in meaningless games.

Don’t get excited all you haters, they are going to use him as a tackling dummy. He looks like a Raven, smells like a Bengal, and plays like a Brown.

GREAT… Pittsburgh signs the “Human Turnstyle” This guy couldn’t block his own shadow. He SUCKS and was the PRIME suspect in AZ’s O-line giving up 59 sacks last year. Majority of those were THROUGH Batiste. He looked like a Matador as Defensive Ends passed the crowd would yell Ole’

Somebody should print “Welcome” on his back because he just became the Ravens’ newest doormat.

Sounds like a diamond in the rough to me. Soon we’ll be seeing him flatten Arthur Brown on his way to pancaking Elam. After the 2nd stringers are inserted after another 35-7 halftime rout.

Gotta have guys to help build the confidence of the young defenders…like Worlids, Hood, Ta’amu, and Heyward…
