Dolphins reward Reshad Jones with four-year extension

AP

The Dolphins promised to engage in contract talks with safety Reshad Jones when Jones ended his boycott of offseason workouts.  And the Dolphins have now held up their end of the bargain.

Not only have they talked.  They’ve struck a deal.

Per a league source, the Dolphins have signed Jones to a four-year extension.  He’s under contract through 2017.

A fifth-round pick out of Georgia in the 2010 draft, Jones was due to make $1.323 million in 2013.

In July, Jones said he wants to be known as one of the premiere safeties in the NFL.  While the numbers aren’t in yet, Jones likely will be getting paid like one of the premiere safeties in the NFL.

  1. Depending on how the contract is structured, it’s a very wise move by the Dolphins… one of many this offseason for them.

And I say that as a Patriots fan.

  2. If they hadn’t done this there would have been massive whining from the Dolphins fan base and criticism in the media for not getting it done.

Now they do sign him and now the media criticizes for supposedly over-paying him without even citing the $. Bias is fun for the whole family!

  3. Terrific signing by Ireland. Jones did the right thing by not holding out and Ireland rewarded him with a great deal. Jones has been an elite safety for a year and a half now. With Kevin Coyle (a DB guru) at D Coordinator, the addition of CB Brent Grimes and an improved LB core, Jones is in great shape to becoming one of the best in the league at his position. #FinsUp @Dolfans_SC_NC

I love him on Parks and Recreation.

He looks terrible in that picture though.

  5. Good move by Ireland. From everything I’ve heard and read, this will let them possibly use the franchise tag on Brent Grimes, who is killing it so far.

What happened to Yeremiah Bell? Either way Phins still finishing behind New England and the Jets both of whom have better teams

Bell hasn’t been on the roster for two years now, and he played for the jets last year. Of course you realize your knowledge (or lack there of) of the Dolphins automatically discounts your “prediction”. Love troll fails.

Well, Bell has been gone for years. Watch much? Your comment shows your ignorance coupled with the suggestion that the jets will be anything other than deeply sitting in the cellar. Troll.
