Atlanta finally strikes deal with church

Falcons

One house of worship down.  One house of worship to go.

A day after breaking off talks with Mt. Vernon Baptist Church regarding a $6.2 million offer to buy a building that’s in the path of the new Falcons Stadium, the powers-that-be in Atlanta struck a deal with the other church blocking the planned construction site.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the agreed price is $19.5 million.  That’s precisely the midpoint between the opening demand of $24.5 million and the opening offer of $14.5 million.

Now that a deal is in place with Friendship Baptist Church, talks with Mt. Vernon Baptist Church will reopen.

    When is the giant sphincter due to be completed?

    This is good news for the Atlanta mayor and the Georgia World Congress Center as the south site is close to the MARTA train station.

    The north site has a bigger footprint and is what the Falcons originally wanted. I think it’s a better spot in my opinion.

    And Mt. Vernons leverage just went WAY up.

    Just move to the North Site.

    The initial offers were exponentially worth more than the churches are worth, and more than fair.

    They should’ve stuck with the August 1st deadline, and stopped all talks.

    @FinFan68

    I’m sure nothing could go wrong with two churches being demolished to put up a shrine to football.

    Jeebus is a happy god now … money AND football. The two things most important to religion.

    Great news for the giant anus!

  9. cobrala2 says: Aug 6, 2013 1:43 PM

    I just hope these Churches make a lot of money on these deals because that’s what is important here.

    But seriously, the North Site is inferior logistically to the South Site. It needs to be South from the Falcons and GWCC’s perspective.

    Will V’Ger even allow carbon units inside once it’s finally built?

    What’s wrong with the Georgia Dome? I figure the Falcons could get off to a hot start before completely shutting down and collapsing in the second half, well, pretty much anywhere. Why do they need a new stadium for this?

    Gotta love Organized Crime, err uh, I mean Organized Religion….

    The Georgia Dome has been my place of Sunday worship for many many years. So demolishing ones place of worship to build another ones place of worship makes total sense to me.

    @FinFan68

    Plans are for it to be ready by the 2017 season.

    Good, build something that actually generates tax revenue!

  16. Indybear says: Aug 6, 2013 2:02 PM

    The Falcons and organized religion – the only two entities that can make thousands rise and scream “Jesus Christ” all at once.

    Matt Ryan now gets a stadium to match his soiled pants. Go Sphincter Stadium!

  18. losanginsight says: Aug 6, 2013 2:31 PM

    This stadium is doomed before it will even be built. Demolishing churches for a football stadium?

  19. wozzmann1955 says: Aug 6, 2013 2:37 PM

    To hell with the worship houses and the football houses.Build some houses for real people that need them with that money.

    Say one negative word about Tebow’s evangelizing and your post gets removed, yet all these (awsome) comments about religion make it through. Go figure.

    The is no better fit then to build a stadium in Atlanta that looks like a giant sphincter.
    The a-hole capital of the galaxy!

  26. thingamajig says: Aug 6, 2013 5:27 PM

    And unlike you and me the church doesn’t have to pay any taxes on their 19.5 million dollar windfall.

    What a joke. ATL doesn’t have monetary authority.
