Eagles: Arrelious Benn has torn ACL

Eagles wide receiver Arrelious Benn sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament on Tuesday, the club said.

The injury would seem likely to end Benn’s season, considering the usual timetable to recover from such an injury.

According to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the ACL tear is in Benn’s left knee.  He suffered a similar injury to the same knee late in the 2010 regular season with Tampa Bay.

The Eagles acquired Benn from the Buccaneers in the offseason. He’s caught 59 passes for 862 yards and five TDs since entering the league as a second-round pick from Illinois in 2010.

The Eagles also disclosed Tuesday that they have waived wide receiver David Ball, who played for coach Chip Kelly at New Hampshire.

eagles will be in perfect position to grab marquise lee with the 3rd overall pick in next yrs draft.oh wait they will need a qb with that pick since vick will be gone.teddy bridgewater? aj.McCarran? taj boyd? ur thoughts eagles fans? hahahahaha

Tough break. Eagles running low on legitimate WR’s. Jackson is nothing more than a 9-route receiver and the rest of the bunch are just journeymen. Gonna be a long year for who ever has to throw passes.

T.O. and Chad Johnson are available….couldn’t be any worse than what they have

Its a shame, he showed some brief flashes with the bucs…Unfortunately 2 strikes in the same knee is an out in football.

Sucks for Benn….probably means a reprieve for Cooper

  6. 4getu says: Aug 6, 2013 7:28 PM

    And the hits keep coming

  7. mancave001 says: Aug 6, 2013 7:30 PM

These injuries in camp are crazy. There has got to be a way to reduce these knee injuries.

  8. rslibertarian says: Aug 6, 2013 7:33 PM

    Riley Cooper’s fault….

Total casualities from the ACL injury in 2013: Too many to freaking count!

That Sux for Benn! I thought he had a shot to get some decent playing time this season. Cut Ball already??? How bad do you have to Suck to get cut after like 4 practices…….

  12. valcomm5 says: Aug 6, 2013 7:45 PM

    What a shame!

  13. raynman49 says: Aug 6, 2013 7:57 PM

Could all these ACL tears have anything to do with the new rules about practices,or are these guys not working out in the off season? Never remember this many.

  14. vicnocal says: Aug 6, 2013 7:59 PM

So much for cutting Riley Cooper.

  15. upperdecker19 says: Aug 6, 2013 8:06 PM

Jeez….where’s “FredEx” when we need him.

  16. edelmanfanclub says: Aug 6, 2013 8:23 PM

Sad, this was Benns shot to shed the bust label (with Maclin getting hurt and Cooper getting hatred due to double standards)

  17. whereyaat says: Aug 6, 2013 8:28 PM

A perfect example of Murphy’s law at work! The Eagles didn’t want Riley Cooper to play, and instead, every little factor will favor him playing all 16 for them. (Or at least until he gets blown up on an Anquan Boldin v. the Jets type of hit.)

Too bad, too. Benn was one of those “Training camp stars” just two years ago, who never really reached his potential.

  18. eshine76 says: Aug 6, 2013 8:30 PM

Too bad. The guy has talent, but a 2nd ACL tear likely ends his career.

  19. brobroski says: Aug 6, 2013 8:31 PM

WRs are dropping left and right and Brandon Lloyd is still unsigned after a 70+ catch, 900 yd season last year. What up wit dat?

    The Eagles haven’t retired Harold Carmichael’s #17!?!!

  21. auscon4 says: Aug 6, 2013 8:39 PM

Paging Harold Carmichael, you’re on in 5… It’s like in the original movie “Running Man”, they started pulling old stalkers out of retirement to kill Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Last year was O line…. C’mon God of Footballl. Lets drop the Viagra against the Eagles…

My plan to snag Jadeveon Clowney is nearly complete.

  24. sillec28 says: Aug 6, 2013 8:55 PM

Eagles aren’t losing anything with this guy out. He never did anything with the Bucs after being a second (I think it was) round pick. I forget what the Eagles gave for him but it couldn’t have been much.

  25. isithockeyseasonyet says: Aug 6, 2013 8:57 PM

Have to go out and sign one of these vets to a one year deal now for sure

  26. skinsfan91 says: Aug 6, 2013 9:26 PM

At least RGIII goes down in the heat of battle. All these chumps going down before they even see the field. Yet, no one talks crap about them. LOL.

  27. Youknowimright says: Aug 6, 2013 9:35 PM

Good thing chip cut back on the tackling this summer.

  28. mttte3 says: Aug 6, 2013 9:49 PM

Chip had a better roster at Oregon.

  29. vegaskid21 says: Aug 6, 2013 9:53 PM

I think I just tore my ACL reading this and walking.

  30. krypticking says: Aug 6, 2013 10:08 PM

The Eagles lead the league in something already… Torn ACLs. This has been a rough camp for my team. I was hoping to see what Benn could offer the Eagles.

  31. janvanflac says: Aug 6, 2013 10:21 PM

sucks, he had potential. but in an offense which will run the ball A LOT and almost always have 2 TEs on the field, they aren’t so dependent on WRs. Wouldn’t surprise if they only keep 4.

and, btw, DJax, Damaris Johnson, and even UFA Russell Shepard have looked great so far.

  32. larrydavid7000 says: Aug 6, 2013 11:33 PM

I really don’t think the egirls has or have any WR to begin with in the first place. 60 plus years of nothing.

  33. sidepull says: Aug 7, 2013 6:22 AM

Torn ACL’s or not. egirls are not going to a superbowl without a ticket. Dream Team. Dynasty. Joke that’s what you should call yourselves.

  34. oldbyrd says: Aug 7, 2013 7:08 AM

Guess he can’t beend his knee?

  35. tombradyswig says: Aug 7, 2013 8:44 AM

is james thrash or todd pinkston available?

  36. rickycubane says: Aug 8, 2013 1:56 AM

This is where Riley Cooper mans up.. Admits he is trailer trash and tells the team he wants to bleed on the field for every teammate he has.. And make up on the field fir his ultimate lack if a moral compass
