Deon Grant announces retirement

Giants Grant Football AP

For a guy whose career nearly ended before it began, Deon Grant had a long run in the NFL.

The veteran safety announced his retirement Wednesday, per multiple reports.

Grant played 11 years with the Panthers, Jaguars, Seahawks and Giants. But a broken hip his rookie season nearly ended that run. The former second-round pick came back from that and played 176 consecutive games. He was out of the league last season, and decided to call it a career.

At least it wasn’t a hasty decision, a la Brandon Moore.

I still remember him dancing in the back of the endzone after picking off Farve. It was the same day Darius clothesline Ferguson. Ahhh memories

Thought he was a great veteran addition to the Giants for the last few years of his career. Willing to do whatever the Giants depleted secondary needed him to do and never complained. Glad he got to get a ring out of a very solid career.

Why add the Brandon Moore comment. Dude wants to be with his family and that’s fine with me….no need to be a douche.

And nothing of value was lost.

Hardest hitting safety besides Ronnie Lott. He should be in the Hall of Fame. All you haters can complain but Grant is the real deal. If only my Giants still had anyone half as tough as he is.

Couldn’t agree more with previous poster. Guy deserved that ring given his career.

Wow, thats about a homer comment if I’ve ever seen one. How about Steve Atwater, Troy Polamalu, Ed Reed? Any of those names ring a bell?

HOF don’t think so but he was a good football player. He would have been better if he played in the 98′ or 90’s doing the era of the box safety. He had issues in the pass coverage.
