Trent Richardson won’t play on Thursday

Cleveland Browns celebrate the fans, practice Aug, 3, 2013 AP

It’s been looking like Browns running back Trent Richardson would miss the preseason opener for a few days now and the Browns confirmed it on Wednesday.

Richardson won’t play against the Rams as a result of the shin injury that has cost him some practice time recently. Coach Rob Chudzinski said that Richardson would play if this was a regular season game, but it isn’t so the Browns will go the precautionary route.

“It’s the preseason,” Chudzinski said, via Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “We have a plan for that and we’re making sure he gets reps as needed out here in practice and we build him to be ready for the beginning of the season.”

Chudzinski went on to say that he had no concerns about Richardson being ready at that point, which makes sense since there is plenty of time for him to get the necessary reps during the rest of the preseason. Dion Lewis will get the start at tailback for the Browns, who will also be without Montario Hardesty in the backfield on Thursday night.

Safety T.J. Ward, guard Shaun Lauvao and cornerback Leon McFadden will also be held out of the first preseason game of the year.

LOL. So many doubters. Obviously Trent Richardson is a top RB in the league. The staff doesn’t really need to see what he can do. They watched it last season.

The guy played with broken ribs last year and started every game until #16. Which I am sure he’d have played if we were in the hunt.

Just based on CLE luck since 1999, I would sit him on that principle alone.

Guy is a great fit for this offense. And don’t worry he is plenty durable.

Im beginning to think the same thing. A wasted pick. He’s gonna have to show me something this year. Not impressed thus far. Go Browns!!

There goes my high draft pick in fantasy! He didnt give me great yardage #’s last year but the TD’s made up for it. Come on Trent get healthy my man.

he will be ready week 1. not a browns fan, but this guy is a beast.

What’s interesting is that the local media has been reporting that they had a plan to only play him in two preseason games as it was – healthy or not. So this may have happened with or without the minor shin injury.

I am not worried… T-Rich should have a monster season this year, given Norv Turner’s track record with running backs and the fact that he came out and said he wants to give Trent 300 carries and 60 receptions. I’d LOVE to see that!

    Go Browns!!!

Much rather he be ready week one of September than week one of August.

Dion Lewis has looked so good in practice, I’d rather see more of him anyways – at leasr until the real season starts.

Browns fans defending Trent. Secretly you guys know you wish you’d gotten Martin/Wilson/Morris.

    Lesson…… Never take a rb top 3. Their a dime a dozen.

Browns are going to run him into the ground.Remembering the days of Barry in Detroit.

Yet another poor top pick for a perennially pathetic franchise. The Browns will be lucky to be 5 and 11 this year, and that’s if, and one if, everything falls in place.

Sadly it looks like some Browns fans aren’t used to having a star player (or coaches protecting them).

Richardsons “injury” isn’t even an injury. Its very questionable that the Browns staff ever even planned on him even playing in preseason till week 3 (the dress rehearsel). The coaches quote says it all, if it was a real game he would have played.

Read the current off season injury list and you’ll understand why the Browns star running back isn’t playing in the pre season and only practicing when necessary.

As for fantasy owners worried about how he’ll hold up. He was running over people week one of the season with no pre season reps andplayed up until week 16 with two cracked ribs for half the season.

In other words if he’s available and healthy you’d be dumb not to take him.
