A.J. Jenkins makes a catch, fumbles it

Jenkins AP

During Thursday’s edition of PFT on NBCSN, one of the many topics was 49ers receiver A.J. Jenkins.

A disappointment as a rookie first-rounder whom the 49ers, the team needs Jenkins to step it up in his second season.  Especially with Michael Crabtree out for much of the year.

The good news?  Jenkins caught a pass, for 11 yards.  The bad news?  He fumbled it.

Another throw to Jenkins from backup quarterback Colt McCoy was overthrown and intercepted by Broncos safety Mike Adams.

And another fumble, not by Jenkins, was returned for a touchdown by Denver newcomer Shaun Phillips.

Jenkins had no catches in the 2012 season, appearing in three regular-season games and two postseason games.  In the 2012 preseason, Jenkins caught eight passes for 122 yards and a touchdown.

Nice setup Florio, now let me knock it down for you…

I’m sure I speak on behalf of the 49er faithful when I say we are fully prepared to call Jenkins what he is…..a BUST!

This WR unit could use some serious firepower. Somebody needs to step up big, they can’t throw to Vernon Davis on every play.

I wrote this guy off after he didn’t accept Jerry Rice’s training offer.

But Kaepernick is the second coming of Joe Montana, so I’m sure it doesn’t matter. The ball will catch itself if need be.

Just another SF bust. Nothing to see here.

And to think I was called an idiot when I mentioned he “could” be cut at the end of this pre-season 5 months ago. Jenkins is doing nothing to prove me wrong by any means.

That’s too bad. 49ers need someone to step up and I guess he isn’t the person for the job.

Headline reads like a Bad Luck Brian meme.

Jenkins needs to step it up big or he going be cut this preseason. Glad we got boldin but manningham, Kyle, and collie are going have to step up and feel void of Crabtree. I see abunch of 2 TEs sets coming.

49er fans will soon admit AJ Jenkins is a bust but he should have been a 3rd round pick at best. No more excuses that he isn’t needed because the team is “stacked”. Its hard for me to think of team thinner at WR. Vance McDonald looks to be an upgrade over Delanie Walker which is pretty impressive.

The 49ers are loaded with talent don’t get me wrong. But Jenkins at WR and Asomugha in the secondary? Come on man.

For a team that’s had some really great drafts they really missed on this guy
