Bucs cut 2010 third-round pick Myron Lewis

Robert Meachem, Myron Lewis AP

Myron Lewis, a 2010 third-round draft pick of the Buccaneers, is out after three seasons and one start.

A league source tells PFT that the Buccaneers waived Lewis today.

The Bucs liked Lewis a lot coming out of Vanderbilt, where he was an All-SEC cornerback, and took him with the 67th overall pick in the draft. But he has had limited playing time in Tampa Bay, seeing the field mostly on special teams.

Lewis will now be available on waivers. If no one claims him, he’ll be an unrestricted free agent.

The Bucs have a competition going for the last 2 spots at CB, so the fact that Lewis was cut the day of a preseason game means he’s probably being embarrassed in camp by a bunch of undrafted rookies and castoffs. That’s par for the course, though, as he was victimized by opposing receivers every time he stepped onto the field the last few years.

The guy couldn’t see the field last year when the Bucs had one of the worst secondaries the NFL has ever seen. Lewis has had plenty of chances to prove himself on a team that desperately has needed corner help, and he hasn’t capitalized on one of those.

Long story short, if he couldn’t get on the field for Tampa, he has to really, really, really, really suck.

Was he part of the slotted rookie wage scale? If so he should come cheap… Steelers.

    Lousy draft pick, horrible reach.

good riddance. this guy has been kept on pedigree for FARRRR too long. This is the same guy who couldn’t crack the starting lineup when we lost not one, but TWO CB’s to suspension/trades!!!!!!

Guess its off to DC for Myron since all the crappy Bucs from the Raheem era seem to follow him up there.

If it wasn’t for McCoy (can’t miss) & Mike Williams that draft class looks pretty bad. Benn & Price were HUGE 2nd round bust. Cody Grimm was ok for a year, and Eric Lorig has been a decent FB. I expect big things out of Dekoda Watson this season.

@bucrightoff it must kill you that the Skins beat that ass last year lol

A lot of experts projected him as a safety at the NFL level, he sucked as a CB but might be a capable free safety if he can stay healthy.

@ sonny. Beat that azz? You guys won in the last minute of the game. Yes a win is a win but that was not “beat that azz” game as you dreamt it was.

In fact Safety Mark Barron is playing Dime so there is no dime CB.
