Green Bay-area store gives away its Greg Jennings gear

Live in the Green Bay area and fondly remember Greg Jennings‘ seven seasons with the Packers?

It might have been your lucky day.

Per Fox 11 in Green Bay, and via Paul Imig of FoxSportsWisconsin.com, The Jersey Store in Ashwaubenon — about a half-mile away from Lambeau Field — is giving away its Jennings-related merchandise, including jerseys.

The store’s manager, Mike Walters, told Fox 11 that the store’s owner was unhappy with Jennings’ most recent round of remarks about his old club.

“The owner is definitely very concerned,” Walters said, per Fox 11. “She feels like he really stepped over the line with the brainwashing comment.”

UPDATE 4:56 p.m. ET: Heidi Tanner, a manager at The Jersey Store, told PFT that the store has given away all of its Jennings gear. Customers had to buy an item first for a piece of Jennings apparel, but it could even be as small as something as a hat on sale, she said.

Prediction: Greg Jennings has less than 700 yards receiving and 5 TDs this season.

Another prediction: He’ll still be crying about Green Bay this time next year.

  2. sikoix says: Aug 8, 2013 4:33 PM

Greg’s comments bothered me as a Vikings fan initially, but the more bizarre reactions to it in Green Bay are making me think there’s more to it. Either way I hope he sticks to talking about his current team moving forward.

    Makes sense to me.

Greg was right, I live near GB and you are tarred and feathered if you don’t get in line. Not really news to those who don’t bleed for the team in this state.

  8. themike31 says: Aug 8, 2013 4:38 PM

I actually bought a Darren Sharper jersey in that same store after he went to Minny. Still liked what he had given on the field and understood his competitive spirit. (Plus, it was $10.)

With that in mind, I might take the Jennings jersey for free. The name on the front of the jersey (figuratively speaking) is always more important than the one on the back.

    Oh no…have I been brainwashed?

  9. darkneptune73 says: Aug 8, 2013 4:38 PM

So the owner is willing to sacrifce profit for his business for pride.

I wonder how much of a revenue loss he’s going to get for the rest of the season…

  10. jhumbe says: Aug 8, 2013 4:39 PM

Think about it… they pay $150 for stock that is worth nothing more than a display item but give away merchandise from players who dare question the organization. His point is being made entirely by this moron of an owner.

  11. jhumbe says: Aug 8, 2013 4:40 PM

Meanwhile, they still sell Ryan Braun jerseys in Wisconsin, go figure. #brainwashed

Green Bay fans can’t stand it if any of their former players say anthing that could be construed as remotely negative about their precious club. They’re the most insecure fanbase in all of sports, as evidenced by their constant need to remind everyone of how great they are.

  14. scoops1 says: Aug 8, 2013 4:41 PM

maybe he should Keep the jerseys, remove Jennings’s name and replace with the great McGee

then donate the sale of the jerseys to the Max McGee National Research Center for Juvenile Diabetes

  15. jhein23 says: Aug 8, 2013 4:43 PM

If the Packers signed a free agent from the Vikings for a lot of money and than all he did for months & months is talk about the Vikings and players on their team I’d be pretty mad. We signed you to play for our team that’s the team you should be worried about not your former team.

I see many Minnesota fans feel the same way. Why pay a guy all this money and than he stays obsessed with his former team.

  17. iluvbears says: Aug 8, 2013 4:44 PM

I think Jennings is 100% accurate with his comments. I see how GB fans are, and if the team is half as crazy as its fans, then there is some big-time brainwashing going on there. Any team that can get its fans to pay $250 for a piece of paper that is worth about 1/10,000th of that amount has to be doing some kind of brainwashing. Has anybody ever tested the city’s water supply?

And people wonder why they hate the peckers. That’s why.!!! Woman just let it go.!!!!. There will be a lot of whining after The Redskins give the peckers a Major Beat Down in week 2. I hope you have your left tackle figured because 91 & 98 are coming hard. good luck and I will be at that game as well. LOL LOL.

  19. kacimlangford says: Aug 8, 2013 4:47 PM

Packer fans are the most sensitive fans ever.

Jennings is getting to most of them. I think that is his plan.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it gives the players a reason to be upset when they play and it actually effects their play in a bad way.

Some say it will make them play better. I believe that it can go either way 50/50.

  20. iluvbears says: Aug 8, 2013 4:47 PM

Also, isn’t it interesting how GB fans & the team treat the former players who dare play for another franchise before their career is over? It is like a cult that chastises anyone who wants to leave it. Look how they treated Sharper, Favre, Longwell & now Jennings. I think Jennings is really on to something.

Way to prove a point Mrs. Store-owner! I have a great idea — if you’re going to give the stuff away, why not donate it to people in need?! Probably because football is more important than normal life in WI and people in need just aren’t as important as the Packers and the pride of their fanbase!

You’re a fool for making ridiculous comments about their earlier championships and I hate the pack as much as the next guy. But upon researching Curly Lambeau and those teams when PFT educated my 31 year old ass as to why Farve has no place on their Mt Rushmore (Farve has no place. There are 4 more influential Packers in history. He can be 5) I realized exactly how great that organization was back then. Sincerely, an Eagles fan

  31. whatjusthapped says: Aug 8, 2013 5:13 PM

They should just box them up and send them over to Minnesota. Just like the Packers, when it isn’t of any use to Green Bay anymore, Minnesota is happy to take the left overs.

Gee, when is King Rodgers ever going to thank Favre for the mentoring and learning.

  41. dkrause71 says: Aug 8, 2013 5:25 PM

Jennings merchandise would have sold for crap after all these comments by him. By the owner requiring customers to buy something with it, not only does she clear out worthless merchandise, get a sale of current merchandise but receive positive local and national attention (for basically free).

You can make all the dismissive comments you want, that is good business.

As for the comments about how Packer fans turn on those that leave the team, that isn’t true. If you do a Favre or Jennings and bash the team after you leave, then they turn on you. Just like fans of others teams do when it happens to them.

To sikes fans, do you think these jerseys were still regular priced after Jennings left to come to MN? They were probably already being sold for a song and a dance. Now the store owner used one of the most successful marketing tools by offering something free. Now customers come and buy a $25 hat and get a Jennings jersey. Funny thing is most of those free jerseys will probably go to sikes fans who want to rub it in a little. Mean while store owner turns profit thanks to MN Trolls.

I call yall mediocre Minnesota fans for a reason, you all are showing it by taking issue with GB holding themselves to a higher standard. Then you’ll sit and agree with Paul Allen saying sikes in the Superbowls. Now that’s brainwashed.

    BEAR DOWN!!!

  52. brewcrewfan54 says: Aug 8, 2013 6:09 PM

The store probably made money off this deal. How much money were they making off of Jennings gear at this point? Probably not a ton. This got people into the store, and they had to buy something to get the free stuff the wanted. The store made money and was able to rid itself of stock taking up space. Sounds like a pretty solod decision to me.

  53. tonymission says: Aug 8, 2013 6:10 PM

I haven’t seen any Packer fans bashing Tom Crabtree or Desmond Bishop. Both went elsewhere and Bish even went to the Vikings… Longwell, Favre and Jennings have all had axes to grind after leaving and naturally that hasn’t been well received. I still love Bishop and wish him the best when he’s not playing the Pack. The other guys couldn’t get pissed on if they were burning in front of me… Jennings reminds me of one of my exes that went out of her way to try and tell girls I was dating about all the bad things I “did to her”. You’ve all had a crazy ex like that… no different.

I agree, McCarthy and the Packers organization are terrible for “brainwashing” players…

How dare they hold these principles:

    1. You should respect the organization and yourself

    2. You should put team success before personal success

    3. Your play should show your commitment to the team and you should have a positive attitude.

Yeah, what a bunch of nutcakes

  57. schmitty2 says: Aug 8, 2013 6:12 PM

Wow, he really didn’t say that much. When you think about it aren’t the Packers owned by the ppl of Green Bay, which sort of makes them a business, in business the owners of such usually want their product to be referred to in an appealing light especially by their employees. So in a sense, yes it’s advertising, yes it is a kind of propaganda and thusly a sort of branding = brainwashing argument. It also isn’t a big surprise that he likes purple now, they pay him or a big surprise that Minnesota doesn’t think Green Bay is better than them, that would be fairly healthy self esteem if the state was a single person. Giants Ruuule!!

I lived in WI for over 20 years and the most disgusting thing I ever saw at an NFL football game was at a Packer/Bear game at Lambeau Field in 1985.

At half time the Bears were running into the tunnel to the locker room and 4 green and gold fans whipped out their “units” and were urinating over the rail onto the Bear players below them.

I stayed at the Best Western by Lambeau in 1993 and was insulted by the “gentleman” at the desk because I was wearing a Viking hat when I checked in on Saturday night. My company Christmas party was at their hotel (I worked for Cellcom – Jim Schmitt the current mayor of Green Bay was my boss).

I got the last laugh. I was at the game in Milwaukee that Sunday when the Vikings defeated the Packers 21 – 17…

Yeah, those Packer fans are the “best” fans in the NFL.

I’m not a packer fan, but its so obvious that the Vikings are not the class of the NFC North.

But who knows, things can change, if the Vikings players believe they are better, wait…that’s brainwashing?

  74. themike31 says: Aug 9, 2013 11:46 AM

Vikings fans keep using that word “insecure” and I do not think it means what they think it means.

Is it insecure to believe in your team’s program and point to historical results as evidence of how it works?

Or is it insecure to spend most of your time trying to cut down your rival because you desperately want people to think you’re as successful as them?

    You decide.

    themike31 says:

Is it insecure to believe in your team’s program and point to historical results as evidence of how it works?
    ____________________

It is insecure when you love to revel in the minority of the historical results, but refuse to acknowledge the majority of the historical results…

25 years without scoring a single TD in the playoffs of a full regulation season – and 19 of those years weren’t winning seasons (11 in a row at one point).

Neither the Bears or the Vikings have ever had a decade long period without a winning season. The Vikings longest stretch is 3 years without a winning season.

As bad as the Lions have been at times, they’ve only had one decade long stretch where they failed to have a winning season.

The Packers are the only franchise in the NFC North to have had more than one decade long stretch without a single winning season.

By no means am I trying to cut the Packers down so that my team can be as “successful” as them.

I already know that the Vikings have never shown as much futility for such long periods of time as the Packers have done for much of their history.

  76. themike31 says: Aug 9, 2013 2:53 PM

Can you name the only NFL team to lose four of the first eleven Super Bowls by double digits and then never make it back to one?

Futility is a pretty subjective term. Championships, however, are definite.

  77. themike31 says: Aug 9, 2013 2:54 PM

I also love how the argument of “Packers fans are stuck in the past” becomes “Packers fans should look at what happened 20-45 years ago” when it’s convenient to Viking fans.

  78. themike31 says: Aug 9, 2013 2:59 PM
