The Jets went with veteran Mark Sanchez as their starting quarterback for their preseason opener instead of rookie Geno Smith.
The Eagles are also going the veteran route for their first game of the summer. Coach Chip Kelly announced Thursday that Michael Vick will be the first quarterback on the field against the Patriots on Friday night.
Kelly was adamant on Wednesday that there was nothing to read into his choice and he made that point again Thursday by saying that Vick is starting because it is his day to work with the first team. He said Vick and Nick Foles would each get about 12-20 snaps while splitting time with the first team and he got a jump on next week by announcing that Foles would get the first crack in the second preseason game.
The order that the two quarterbacks play won’t matter all that much, but the same can’t be said of their performance. We’ve heard plenty of reports from practice about how the two quarterbacks have done, but live action is a different and more significant ball of wax.
