Niners bring back greats in Candlestick farewell season

RogerCraig

On Thursday night, the 49ers embarked on the final season to be played at Candlestick Park. And they’ll be bidding farewell to the 53-year-old facility by bringing back some of the great players who played there.

First up was running back Roger Craig, per Daniel Brown of the San Jose Mercury News. Craig served as honorary captain at the coin toss and he commemorated the No. 10 moment in stadium history: The 30-3 win over the Rams in the 1989 NFC title game.

(There may be some mystery for No. 9 through No. 2, but the top moment is a fairly safe guess.)

Other players who’ll make appearances for the nine remaining games, excluding playoffs, include Ronnie Lott, Joe Montana, Dwight Clark, and others.

Next year, the 49ers christen the so-called Field of Jeans in Santa Clara, a high-tech, state-of-the-art facility that will host Super Bowl L.
