Catching up on Hard Knocks, for free

Zimmer AP

I don’t have HBO, so I don’t see Hard Knocks when it debuts.  (MDS is the official PFT Hard Knocks correspondent.  Because unlike me he’s not too cheap to get HBO.)

But I had to see the first episode of the new season, since the show includes Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer watching Pro Football Talk on NBCSN in his office.

So I went to HBO’s website and, lo and behold, the episode has been posted there, free of charge.

If you don’t have HBO or if you haven’t seen it yet and you’re looking for a way to kill time on a Friday afternoon, dial up HBO.com, click on “sports,” and follow your nose.

At about the 11:30 mark, you’ll see Zimmer in his office watching our show, with a bag of Red Man and a giant jug of generic mouthwash.  Presumably to take the edge off the Red Man.

So go to your office.  (Unless you’re already there.)  Grab a clump of tobacco, pull out your giant jug of generic mouthwash, put your feet up, and enjoy the first episode of Hard Knocks.

You should get HBO if only just for Bill Maher alone. (That’s the only program I watch there..)

I know no one has said this in almost a decade, but great insight by the patriotsdefense,

What – no cries of injustice? Said pouch of tobacco contains an “R” word and repeated without hesitation within this story. Oh the hypocrisy!

HBO Go doesnt have Hard Knocks. So that will not work very well. Its an NFL films production, its not owned by HBO, NFL Films has the exclusive digital rights to the show.

Well the job of these coaches is to make sure their team is the best. One of the tests to determine that is to build your team and then see how the team holds up to pundit scrutiny. And there is a correlation that exists between teams that are spoken of favorably versus not favorably. Florio said something to the effect of the Bengals having potential to be very good and that resonated with the coach.

He told his team that hey we’re only good right now, and good might not be good enough, so we have to get better. If you think everything’s perfect then it’s time to make sure the first critic also agrees, and then the next, until there are no more critics that doubt your perfection. Until then the job is never done.

LOL, I love free. I don’t have HBO, either. I don’t want to get into Hard Knocks because I don’t want to get hooked. I mean, Hard Knocks isn’t exactly Game of Thrones.

  9. ravanator says: Aug 9, 2013 3:11 PM

Why would any team want to filmed for Hard Knocks? I quess making a soap opera of the preseason will at least give the sorry Bengals fans something to talk about. We all know once the regular season starts they will be in back in their normal place, the AFC North basement. Bengals are a truly weak organization.

You spit the tobacco juice into the mouthwash, let the resulting product age (to taste), then consume it at your leisure.

You have HBO and you don’t want Game of Thrones or Girls? That’s like having HBO in the 2000s and not watching the Wire!

I think you’re confusing them with Cleveland. I know it’s hard, they both start with a C, are by rivers and have similar colors but one has gone to the playoffs three of the last four years.

C’mon Mike you have to be loaded to own this site that’s connected with NBC… Ante up for HBO.

  14. axespray says: Aug 9, 2013 3:35 PM

wait – does HBO post new episodes of Game of Thrones on their website too?

hell, I may just be able to catch the last couple seasons of the Wire and watch any Lucky Louie episodes I haven’t gotten around to seeing.

How do you not have HBO? You deserve something to take your mind off living in West Virginia.

  16. titansbro says: Aug 9, 2013 3:37 PM

The Bengals are probably the most talented team in the AFC. If Dalton takes a step forward this could be a dominant team going forward.

Red man is ok for chewing to tobacco, but Redskins isn’t for a football team? So would the Washington Redmen be acceptable?

  18. ravanator says: Aug 9, 2013 4:41 PM

    @deelron

I can’t believe Bengals fans are so pathetic. Bengals make the playoffs as a wildcard, get eliminated after one game, and the fans are satisfied. Your coach has been there forever and continues to produce garbage on the field, and the fans tolerate it. Truly a sorry organization.

  20. tlshow says: Aug 9, 2013 5:07 PM

Hey ravanator…you sound more like a whizzinator! Are any TRUE football fans happy or satisfied to just make the playoffs??? You best be looking in the rear view mirror….cause those bungles are about to suck you under! Thank God that blowhard backer has retired! Great player, but really wore out his welcome the last few years. Just remember this 5 letter word….DEPTH…it’s something we’ve got that you can only wish you had!

Mike Zimmer is AWESOME. He deserves a head coaching job.

“You best be looking in the rear view mirror….cause those bungles are about to suck you under!”

This comment says a lot. Bengals fans talk about looking in the rearview mirror, Raven fans are always looking ahead to another Super Bowl victory. You even call your favorite team the “Bungles”. I now for sorry for the Bengals organization, since the fan base is so lame, and football dumb.

Why, how many Super Bowls have the Bengals won?

It’s all about rings and the Bengals are even with the Browns and others.

    ZERO.

The Bengals are a weak organization, really? Granted they’ve gotten taken out in a big way each of the last two playoff games by Houston, but they are not a weak organization anymore. Under Marvin Lewis, they’ve turned the corner. They draft better, they’re better at which players they keep on their roster, and they have more depth at key spots than almost, if not every other NFL team. They will not be in the AFC North basement this year. The order of standings will be Ravens, Bengals, Steelers (maybe), and then the Browns. The Bengals have a very real chance at taking over the top spot in the AFCN from the Ravens.
