The Rams lost right tackle Rodger Saffold to a left shoulder injury a couple of plays into Thursday night’s game and it sounds like they’ll be playing without him for the next little while.

Rams coach Jeff Fisher said after the game that he didn’t think it was a particularly serious injury and that x-rays came back negative. He provided a bit more of an update on Friday, saying that Saffold was still being evaluated but that the expectation was that he’d be sidelined for a while with a dislocated shoulder.

“We’re still doing tests. He’s a little sore. He’s going to miss some time. He may miss a preseason game or two,” Fisher said at a press conference.

Any missed time could affect Saffold’s transition to the right side of the line after spending the last three years as a left tackle before giving way to Jake Long. Fisher said Friday that Saffold’s “doing well” in a move the coach thinks is mostly about “footwork.”

Joe Barksdale and Ty Nsekhe are the next two tackles on the depth chart and will likely fill in until Saffold’s ready to return.
