Browns call Kosar’s comments about Rams “unprofessional”

During Thursday night’s preseason game between the Rams and the Browns, Cleveland on-air analyst Bernie Kosar offered up some bizarre and pointed criticisms of the Rams.

Rams coach Jeff Fisher didn’t like it. The Browns don’t like it, either.

“We don’t condone the personal and unprofessional approach that Bernie took with some of his comments during the broadcast Thursday night,” Browns CEO Joe Banner said in a statement issued by the team. “We’ve spoken to Bernie, he understands that, and we would expect the situation is resolved moving forward. We’ve also reached out to the Rams organization and have shared those same sentiments.”

Among other things, Kosar said the Rams’ receivers are “horrible,” and that their parents should be “embarrassed.”

“Bernie’s got his issues. They’re well-documented,” Fisher said Saturday.

The precise reasons for Bernie’s issues aren’t entirely clear (he has undergone treatment for football-related brain trauma), but the effects are becoming increasingly obvious. And it appears that, for now, the Browns won’t be taking the microphone away from a man who is showing that, for whatever reason, he’s perhaps not fit to be speaking into one.

So the real question isn’t whether the Browns should have relieved Kosar of his duties for saying what he said, but whether they’re now risking an even uglier incident at some point in the future.
