Montario Hardesty injures thumb fielding direct snap

Browns reserve running back Montario Hardesty is dealing with an injury sustained in rather unlikely fashion.

Per multiple reports, Hardesty hurt his right thumb catching a direct snap on Monday.

“The ball hit his hand and he injured his thumb,” Browns coach Rob Chudzinski said Monday, per Tony Grossi of ESPNCleveland.com. “It’s a tough deal, but we’ll see what the status is.”

The 26-year-old Hardesty has played just 23-of-48 regular-season games since entering the NFL in 2010. He missed his entire rookie season with a knee injury.

Hardesty, who has also dealt with a hamstring injury during camp, is one of the Browns’ backups to starter Trent Richardson. He is a free agent at season’s end.
