Lions receiver Calvin Johnson is sitting out tonight’s preseason game.

The Lions have announced that Johnson won’t suit up against the Browns while he nurses a knee contusion.

There’s no reason to believe that this knee contusion is anything serious. The Lions probably just want to get other receivers (like Patrick Edwards, who will start in Johnson’s place) more work. The Lions also don’t want to expose their best player to injury.

And anyway, it’s not like Megatron needs any preseason work. Johnson caught three passes for 58 yards in the Lions’ preseason debut, and he did that in only two series. Yes, Johnson is ready for another big year, and no, he doesn’t need another preseason game to get ready.
