Foles shows he can run Kelly’s offense

Patriots Eagles Football AP

Eagles coach Chip Kelly has admitted the offense was going to change if Nick Foles ended up his starting quarterback.

And while it wasn’t a perfect beginning, Foles did some things that indicated this could indeed be a competitive situation. He started in place of Michael Vick, and had a fairly impressive first quarter.

An interception in the back of the end zone killed what had been an impressive opening drive. He was 6-of-6 passing before the pick, moving them crisply downfield against the Panthers.

The Eagles ran a no-huddle which had the Panthers on their heels, and Foles was willing to chip away as needed. While he’s not as mobile as Vick, he was able to buy time (the Panthers got no pressure with their front four).

Of course, Foles showed he can be a functional runner also, getting around the corner for a 7-yard touchdown on his second drive.

He’s going to make Vick win the job, and that will at least give the Eagles some options.

Foles is going to be a great NFL quarterback.

Brandon weeden looks better than both of them right now

mike vick will be one expensive backup QB.

He tried to do to much with that pick, but overall he looked great!!

Both QB’s have actually looked pretty good, and while I was opposed to it at first I think Vick will be very good as the starter.

It’s clear why Chip has been waiting to name a starter. Both guys are doing their utmost to win the job, and both guys could do the job.

Foles haters and Vick haters both need to chill.

This is a good problem for Chip Kelly and the Eagles to have.

Calm down everyone. It’s the pre-season.

That’s false. They both look great. Weeden is on his last chance. He looks just decent.

He didn’t try to do too much. He tried to throw it away and didn’t get enough on it to get it out of the end zone. Whichever announcer told you that is an idiot.

Think this post was a quarter too soon. Vick dominated.

Not so fast! Vick went 9/10, 105 yards. Not exactly shabby. Foles looked fine but Vick brings an explosiveness to the offense that Foles just doesn’t.

Vick, Foles, the USC guy, who ever. Trot them all out and watch them each get crushed week 1

Vick looked good, too. Foles just has to tale care of the ball. If he can clean that up he should be alright.

  14. kacapaco says: Aug 15, 2013 10:40 PM

well, Vick was like 9 of 10 with 105 yards while Foles was 6 of 8 for 53 yards both with a pick apiece. Vick was definitely better today.

dolphins4 said so, so it must be happening…..MUHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAH…..NOT.

Both looked good. Foles blew it with an INT in the red zone, in my opinion. Vick’s INT as a desperation last second throw doesn’t discount his efficiency in Kelly’s run first offense. I think the line will make Mike Vick the starter because of his comfortability in the pocket that we saw.

I hope he doesn’t force too much this year, and continues to listen to Chip. Foles has a lot of potential…but I think Vick wins out to start the season.

Injuries may provide Nick the chance to shine…

I wanted Foles but he’s blowing it. It’s Vicks job to lose now.

    Foles should be the starter.
    Vick is trade bait.
Vick will be traded right before the regular season begins.

  19. justlntuckrule says: Aug 16, 2013 1:34 AM

Foles did try to throw it out of the endzone, but he was being dragged down, which caused the ball to fall short, right into the defenders hands. Not his fault.

  20. bach2112 says: Aug 16, 2013 7:37 AM

Vick will be QB until he fumbles, holds the ball to long, or misreads the defense again. Philly sure has gone downhill as of late. Happened after Vick had one good season got his money and then became “he is what he is” type QB.

  21. PFT=crap says: Aug 16, 2013 7:50 AM

See above for premature comments. At the end of the game it was pretty clear that Vick won the night.

  22. dirtdawg54 says: Aug 16, 2013 8:00 AM

If you are throwing g picks in the end zone you aren’t running the offense, you are ruining it.

  23. oldbyrd says: Aug 17, 2013 8:43 AM

He also showed he can”t run!
