Reid: Charles would play if it were a regular-season game

Reid AP

In an interview that will air on Thursday’s edition of Pro Football Talk on NBCSN (5:00 p.m. ET), Chiefs coach Andy Reid addresses running back Jamaal Charles‘ status for Friday’s preseason game against the 49ers.

And while Reid declined to commit to Charles playing in the second preseason contest of the year, Reid made clear that, if the game counted, Charles would indeed be playing.

Other topics include the timing of Reid’s trade inquiries regarding quarterback Alex Smith when Reid was in Philly and Smith was in San Francisco, along with Reid’s assessment of whether his first quarterback with the Eagles belongs in the Hall of Fame.

If either of those answers end up on the cutting-room floor for today’s show, the full interview will re-air on Friday’s PFT Live (1:00 p.m. ET).

Reid would be smart to do whatever it takes to get Jamaal Charles 50+ receptions this season, quite like he did with Westbrook and McCoy. I remember Philly running 2 or 3 screen passes in a row at times…

If it was a regular season game, he’d pass every down and forget Charles is on the team

The chiefs have taken over the Redskins as the most over hyped team in the offseason last year they were going to the super bowl this year reid and Smith are Walsh and Montana enjoy your 4 wins this year maybe they can have as many wins as “pro bowlers” this year

Can we start referring to Andy Reid as Big Red from now on?

I wanna know how the heck the chiefs had more pro bowlers than any other team and stunk it up on the field week in and week out. Ridiculous.

One thing has always cracked me up when people make negative comments about the Chiefs “pro bowlers” and how many they had last year. Comments about how they wouldn’t make the pro bowl without other injuries, or the “real” stars bowing out. This may be true and the Chiefs pro bowl players may not be top 3 or so in the league at their respective positions. No matter what they are still very talented and many teams would be happy to have them on their team over their current starters. So while they may not be the #1 person at their position, they are great players and the Chiefs are happy to have them! Eventually when you add a player or two with better coaching something will click and change a 2-14 team to above .500 and maybe more.

I thought they called Reid “the Walrus”?

if you know anything about football, you know how important the head coach and QB are, and the chiefs were arguably the worst in the league at both spots last year. it’s not rocket science.

also, they didn’t stink it up week in and week out. they led the broncos in the 3rd quarter at arrowhead last year (again, without a quarterback), and it was the only time all season denver scored less than 20 points. they also put up decent fights against pittsburgh and the colts, despite their offensive woes.

If you don’t like it, don’t read (or get someone to read it for you and sound out the big words) the article. Usually the title gives hints to what the article is about

Andy is meeting with Chiefs ownership now…wants to know how he can get out of his contract. He thought he was signing with KFC…not KC.

“He’s injury prone and a draft bust” says every person who comments every time a starting running back doesn’t play during the pre season. Right Trent Richardson, Frank Gore, MJJ etc.

I want to how ANY raiser fan can post anything bashing another NFL team. Have you been in a coma the last 10 years? The only reason anybody attends a raider game is

    1. Because they are fans of the other team and enjoy watching a good beat down

    2. They have in laws in town visiting and they know there’s a very good chance a raider fan might hit their mother-in-law in the head with a bottle

    3. The circus isn’t in town and they want to still see a freak show.

    Nelly837:
Did you go the Denver at KC game last year? Don’t forget there were more Denver fans than chef fans… cheifs dead last this year..
