Brian Orakpo day-to-day with thigh injury

Brian Orakpo AP

The return of linebacker Brian Orakpo to the Redskins defense is a reason for optimism on Washington, so his absence from practice on Friday was less than ideal.

Orakpo picked up an injury in practice on Thursday, but it has nothing to do with the torn pectoral that knocked him out last season and it doesn’t look like it will keep him on the sideline for any significant period of time. Orakpo took a knee to the thigh while defending a run play and said Friday that he’s optimistic that there’s no serious injury.

“I’m good. I’m real good. Just stuff, you get nicked up in camp, so just precaution. You’ve got to be smart,” Orakpo said, via Mike Jones of the Washington Post. “I’m not sure what the staff wants, but we’ll figure it out. It’s a day-to-day process with this. I had a knee to the quad, so once it calms down, we’ll see where we’re at.”

Coach Mike Shanahan said that there’s been no determination made about Orakpo’s status for Monday night’s game against the Steelers, although there’s probably not too much urgency to push Orakpo too far after experiencing life without him last season.

he got hurt in the last game of 2011. prior to that he had played in every game of his career.

You seem to have forgot he got hurt in week 2 last year against St.Louis and missed the rest of the year.

If Orakpo stayed healthy all of last season the R-Words would have won the Superbowl, is what ever pathetic R-Words fan tells themself before they go to sleep. This guy will miss half of the games this year due to injuries, and fall off the face of the earth, much like the entire franchise. Pretty soon the organization will be packing up and moving to LA.

You seem to lack reading comprehension. He said prior to missing that one game in 2011 he’d never missed a game. Then obviously he went down early last year.

^^^ no not really. my point is he’s basically missed one season out of 4. that is not “oft injured”

Maybe Griffin can suit up at LB then on Monday nite to fill in for Orakpo. He obviously can’t hack being a starting QB in the NFL, Griffin=Tebow2.0

really? I didn’t see this coming??? NOT!!! If this guy could play like he can flap his lips without getting hurt, he would be all pro unfortunately, his mouth writes checks his body can’t cash.

All the trolls commenting on the Redskins. You guys realize it just makes you look scared? I guarantee you guys wouldn’t feel the need to spread all that hate if the Redskins were still in the basement of the NFC East. That spot is up for grabs for the rest of the division. Have fun watching your squads play for that distinction. And that raven guy…too funny…skins fans couldn’t care less about the ravens. lmao…

    You’re right. It just feels like a lot more. He’s a non-entity

It’s so funny to read these comments! I don’t read any news about any other teams but my team! The Redskins! Much less comment on them! Why so much hate? Don’t you guys have enough worries about your own teams? I just can’t understand anyone commenting that’s not a Redskins fan. Why would you even read an article about Orakpo? WOW! HTTR

As a reminder to all NFC East fans:

You are posting on the NFC EAST CHAMPION’S team pages.

If you are looking for another East team, they are listed somewhere BELOW the REDSKINS!

Wait until the unfair cap penalties disappear, the domination will become complete!
