No Jamaal Charles for Chiefs on Friday night

If you’ve got Jamaal Charles on a preseason fantasy football team, you’d better have a backup ready to go on Friday night.

It wouldn’t be a bad idea to get one ready to go for the next two weeks either, although the best idea of all is to find something else to do with your time than have a preseason fantasy football team.

A league source tells PFT that Charles will not play against the 49ers in the Alex Smith Bowl on Friday night as a result of the foot injury he suffered earlier this week. As coach Andy Reid said on Pro Football Talk on NBCSN earlier this week, Charles would play if this were a regular season game but it isn’t and there’s not much sense risking further injury to a player who will do a lot of heavy lifting on offense for K.C. this season.

Third-round pick Knile Davis will get a chance to show off his skills in Charles’ absence with Shaun Draughn and Cyrus Gray also moving up a notch on the depth chart for this game and, it seems, the rest of the summer.

He’ll deal with this all year long.

    Preseason fantasy football? Where nobody’s a winner…

Its because he is a soft and fragile running back. He’ll be out for the year by week 5.

Soft. Weak. Fragile. Flimsy. Frail. Insubstantial.

He was never a contact runner, so what will happen when he loses his speed?

Where is this guys health? …Are the police searching the nearby pond ?

I really hope not. I think he’s an electrifying RB. Probably one of the top 5 or 10 in the league. He’s too good to have injured so we as fans don’t get to see that kind of talent.

Sounds to me though that it’s nothing serious, they are just being extra careful of one of their star players in a game that means essentially nothing for veteran starters anyway.

No Jamal Charles and no QB, it’s last place again for the Kansas City Chiefs. :)

I bet this is a omen for the rest of the year. A year of the nicked up Chiefs

Good Decision. We need Jamall Charles when the games count.

What? The guy has rushed for 4100+ yards over the last four seasons. That includes missing almost all of 2011 due to an ACL tear.

Take out 2011, and he has 4096 yards in his last 3 fulls seasons.

If this team had had decent coaching, QB play, and AP wasn’t making his comeback, Jamaal would have been a huge story.

3 TD runs over 80 yards last year including a 91 yard one.

This is was the most dysfunctional team the last 4 years. Now that he has a real front office, QB, and coach, watch out.

I love the Pit and Oak fans knocking Charles. When was the last time Pit had a top 10 RB? How about Oak? DMC is the epitome of a soft, fragile RB. Has he even finished 1 season? Oh ya, if take A Smith over Flynn or whatever other clown they’re going to trot out there any day

    DT was a fruit..Charles in 2 games against Oak last year – 14 carries for 14 yards..HAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Nope, never. 13 game is his best, and he did that twice. Yep, he and Oakland outplayed Charles and the Chiefs last year head to head, but Charles still finished with twice as many yards rushing as DMC and played in all 16 games. I can’t imagine what Charles would have done if they had actually used him properly.

I think all of us in KC would agree with you( well, not about the ‘bum’ part) but PFM was smart enough not to even give that KC regime a look.

Saviors? No. But a huge upgrade over Haley/Crennel and Scott Pioli? Yes.

2-14 team with horrible QB play and Charles still racked up 1500 yards rushing and a 5.7 per carry average.

I’d say yes, I expect to see a lot of improvement.

If this don’t sideline him, Alice S’meh’th will.

  18. aberystwyth2 says: Aug 16, 2013 6:46 PM

Lets go Cyrus Gray, I wanna see what he can do!

  19. dt58 says: Aug 16, 2013 7:13 PM

Yes rebar, I’d take Manning over Smith too. The article is about Charles. What do you think, Charles or Moreno? I’d be willing to bet that’s there is 31 teams that would gladly have him on their roster. I’m not saying Smith is the best QB in the league or his own division for that matter, I’m saying I’d rather have him then anyone on Oaklands roster (or SD for that matter).

DT a fruit? That “fruit” dominated for a decade and racked up 6 sacks in 3 quarters against that joke of a franchised. Still owns the record for most sacks in a game and has a bust in the HOF. How about you? Your next door neighbour even know your name?

  20. jayniner says: Aug 16, 2013 7:29 PM

I can’t blame him for sitting out…..not many RB’s look forward to going up against the 49ers D.

    GO CHIEFS!!!!

  22. cguy7 says: Aug 16, 2013 9:14 PM

He has speed, the ability to make someone miss, and can take it to the house on any given carry. Characterisics lacking in any Stiller running back in their history…

For the people calling Charles soft, check your stats. Minus his acl tear he has missed 1 career game. Acl tear can happen to anyone
