No matter how long it is, it’s too long.

It sounds like that noodle armed Ponder chick is in trouble already.

Through more than one quarter tonight, Ponder = 5 of 12, 53 yards, Rating of 55.2.

    Sounds about right.

If the Vikings had a better option at QB they would certainly be in the hunt for a playoff spot, maybe even the division. Honestly, Ponder makes them an 8-8 team at BEST. AP won’t be able to carry them to a playoff birth again this year, not with the schedule they have at least.

First three posts are Packer trolls, now THAT sounds about right.

Other backup QBs playing tonight look far more promising than Ponder. Mike Glennon of the Bucs looks like a player to me. Very impressed by his decisions and competitive fire. Ryan Mallett also looks good to me. I wonder if there is any way the Vikings could acquire one of them, or a different young QB. I would offer up a TE and some other stuff if I could get one of these type guys. Sorry, I am totally un-infatuated with Ponder and feel the team owes it to their fans and the other players to get that QB position righter.

What a sorry excuse of a team. SKOL…..lol lol have fun winning 5 gave this year smh

Let’s just say that with local media reporters like Mark Craig and Jugghead Zugland lazing around covering the Vikings, while decent Viking reporters like Tom Pelissero move on to bigger and better things, the job for a good Vikings reporter in Minneapolis is WIDE OPEN.

I’m convinced Ponder has a mafia-like tie to the Minnesota Vikings organization. Seriously? How bad do you have to be, and still be guaranteed a starting QB position with this team? I think had 3 or 4 sub-100 yard passing games last year, yet was never taken out of a any games. Oh, dip! That’s because Webb was the second string (who seems to being doing much better as a receiver — where he should have been from day one). While Spielman has done well will previous drafts in general, Ponder will prove to be his biggest bust. And worst of all, it seems he’s holding on to his failed experiment.

Cassell was even worse, QB rating and completion %. Are we looking at Bethel-Thompson already?

  11. stellarperformance says: Aug 17, 2013 6:12 AM

If the Packers only need a modicum of improvement in the running game to improve their overall effectiveness, the same could be said of the Vikings by doing the same in the passing game. Is Jennings the missing link or will the real Ponder show his “stuff?” I predicted previously if the Vikings exceed expectations (again,) it will be due to the rhythm between Cassell and Jennings, not Ponder. The problem for the Vikings will be how long do they stick with Ponder? Too late?

  12. whatjusthapped says: Aug 17, 2013 7:45 AM

Ponder finished in the bottom third of starting Qb’s last year but to hear the Viking fans explain it, he is on the verge of greatness. His skill set is limited and his weak arm shows there is not a lot of upside to him.

Still, I wish him the best and hopefully the Vikings play this guy for the next three years. That way, Peterson will be 3 years older and on his way out.

I’m guessing Frasier and the Vikings brain trust will wait far too long to pull the plug on the Ponder experiment. Ultimately, the home-crowd boo’s will be too much to overcome, and sometime around week 8 they will come to their senses and make Cassel the starter. By then, it will be too late to salvage the season and it becomes yet another blemish on the Vikings record of incapable quarterbacks. Sad, but true.

  16. stvang says: Aug 17, 2013 11:29 AM

Take a lesson from your successful neighbors to the east. If the play at a position looks incompetent then go out and find available players who can increase the competition.

Vince Young was a great addition to the packers squad. I believe the vikings would be a better team with him under center. Putting him in pistol offense with AP would be damn hard to stop.

Lets be clear VY is not a savior or even great but he can play. And who knows maybe a year or two with Mcnuggets and he’ll be starter material.

Holy crap it was one preseason game. If preseason mattered AT ALL, Daunte Culpepper would’ve won the 2005 MVP and Brett Favre would’ve been benched by week 5 in 2009. But hey, let’s keep overreacting and making rash assumptions based on one meaningless game!

I swear to God my IQ drops every time I read the comments on this site.

I’ve been one saying “give Ponder time”, but his time is up. You see all these young QB’s having success including EJ last night and its pretty clear Ponder has reached his ceiling and it isn’t very high. Shame because the team is loaded and ready now.

  20. mattyjimmy says: Aug 17, 2013 9:07 PM

This is the preseason. Calm down. The Bills blitzed on almost every play and the Vikings line was entirely unprepared for it. Teams don’t scout their opponents in week two of the preseason. In my opinion the offensive line is the most critical area of any NFL team and this is what an offense looks like when the line stinks. They stunk because they were unprepared not because they are not talented. This is preseason week 2 which is not a regular season indicator. Ponder has the physical tools and the mental makeup to be a top half NFL QB. This is year three for him. He will take a step forward. Again, calm down.

I don’t understand why Floyd can’t start WITH Kevin Williams. Why does he have to be his backup? We start two defensive tackles and they haven’t even thought about starting the two best ones together.

  24. tokyosandblaster says: Aug 18, 2013 6:55 PM

What’s great is that it’s clear to everyone (outside of Horn country) is that the Packers needed to improve their defense and running game to be a legit contender, and the Vikings had to VASTLY improve their passing game AND their defense (which wasn’t as good as the Packers) before anyone took them seriously.

The Packers appear to have improved their running game and their defense. The Vikings–lol–have NOT improved.

    lolololololololol

Ya, the pack has improved so well that they were able to get shut out by the cardinals. WOW! Thats impressive

  26. pappavike says: Aug 21, 2013 2:16 AM

Everybody, assumes Ponder cant succeed in the NFL, but totally disagree!! If Ponder just makes a moderate amount of improvement the Vikes will be competive. Lets get the season under way and see where the chips fall fair enough?
