This just in: Tom Brady seems to be OK

Tampa Bay Buccaneers v New England Patriots Getty Images

If Tom Brady was in any way bothered by his left knee, it was impossible to tell.

He’s already got the Patriots on the scoreboard, and erased any worry about his physical condition.

As expected, Brady started against the Buccaneers, wearing his normal game-day brace on his left knee. He wasn’t wearing it Wednesday when Bucs defensive end Adrian Clayborn pushed Patriots left tackle Nate Solder back into him, causing an entire region to hold its breath.

Last week, Brady played 16 snaps, completing 7-of-8 passes for 65 yards and a quick touchdown before calling it a night.

He’s still waiting for his first incompletion tonight, hitting all eight of his attempts on the opening drive, including a touchdown pass to Danny Amendola and the two-point conversion.

So the Pats go for 2 (which I have zero problem with) and our coward of a coach punts, in the preseason, from the 40 when we’re trying out new kickers. Wouldn’t you, in the preseason, want to see if your kicker can make long FGs? It’s so frustrating watching this 1980s offense and boring head coach.

  2. kd75 says: Aug 16, 2013 8:39 PM

Brady was surgical. Get him out of there. He’s fine. Get Amendola out of there too, he might break.

  3. pastabelly says: Aug 16, 2013 8:42 PM

Amendola, IF healthy, will be a slight upgrade over what’s his name.

  4. onebucplace says: Aug 16, 2013 8:44 PM

It’s pretty easy for the Pats to stop the Bucs offense when they’ve practiced with them for 3 days and the Bucs offense consisted of the following.

    1st Down – Play-action Pass
2nd Down – Run up the middle
3rd Down – Throw Deep (sack)
    4th Down – Punt

    rinse-repeat

How jealous I am of the NE and their modern NFL offense.

Very impressed with alot of what I am seeing.
Amendola can do more than Wes. Especially in the redzone, goal line . Hope he, as many have said, stay healthy. Vareen, Ballard (big boy there)
    Slater, Jones, Hightower, Nink,
    Wilfork, etc, all looking good.
Also, some of these rookies and other new additions are looking great so far. I know it is only pre sea, but there is a coherence and cume by ah essence about the teams play. Even Mallet is looking good.. Love that pass the long haired hippy freak rookie pulled in for a TD.

    @benh999,

Must suck to be a Pats hater this year. You were all so gleefully screaming season over when Hernandez was arrested and here that Pats are blazing right from the start.

Hope you have a lot of tissues in your closet cause you’re going to be crying all year long because of the Pats.

They may not make it to the Super Bowl but they’ll win the division again and at least 1-2 playoff games.

  22. mrfrostyj says: Aug 16, 2013 10:23 PM

Looks like Brady has been getting some advice on how to QB from the old vet Brandon Weeden.

  23. dontouchmyjunk says: Aug 16, 2013 10:24 PM

So last week the Patriots practiced with the Eagles for three days and then played a game against them. This week they practiced against the Bucs for three days and then played a game against them. Are they going to do this all pre-season?

  24. tedmurph says: Aug 16, 2013 10:28 PM

Brady is amazing, history in the making. Doesn’t matter what receivers they throw at him, he still makes it happen. The best there ever was.

I don’t know if I have ever seen anyone throw such laser guided frozen ropes before. Ever. I know it’s just the pre-season and vanilla and all that, but still…..he’s really something to watch. Again, I feel an MVP season coming on, though he will likely have to overcome “The Sycophants of Mega-Dome” to do it (aka Manning and his media lap dogs). Brady doesn’t pander to the media or sell his soul for commercial endorsements. No drama. No whining to the media. No throwing your teammates under the bus. Takes responsibility. Plays with the intensity of a hard core fan. Always raising the bar. Makes everyone around him better. A guy has to like that about him.

Tom should have been born triplets….he’s too good to be one man.

  43. yankeemofo says: Aug 17, 2013 3:38 AM

On that TD to Amendola, Brady didn’t step into his throw and he STILL zipped it right in there. He seems a little concerned about that knee.

  44. bighurt228 says: Aug 17, 2013 4:04 AM

Brady was like a surgeon out there like in mid season form. Amendola will fill in nicely, if not better then welker. Running game will be one of the best in the league with them many different styles. Blount looks ready to resurrect his career. Vereen will be used nicely and will make us forget the waste of a tight end they cut. Suds. Also looks like a huge find by BB. When Gronk comes back, this offense may be as good if not better then 2007. The defense seems to be continually improving and the younger guys all seem to be coming together. Jones and Hightower, with spikes will be huge. Looks like we at Pats nation will be making another run for the Lombardi. The window is still wide open with Brady looking in top form with this huge infusion of youth!!

  45. bighurt228 says: Aug 17, 2013 4:34 AM

I know it’s pre season and all but looks like we’re heading in a good direction. Huge downside is Tebow. Don’t see how you can take up a roster spot with him as a backup QB. Was awful tonight and seems to be getting worse instead of better. Great guy, but no where near an NFL QB. He throws like he’s a high school QB. Hope they cut him, this experiment looks over IMO.

Actually they were 1st against the run, last against the pass as far as yards given up.

They were 23rd in the only thing that really matters, total points given up. Which isn’t great but is a lot better than last.

    ______

Tyree drops a ball and Welker catches one and he’s won 2 more Super Bowls since the ESPN non-story the haters worship. If he doesn’t win another Super Bowl, it won’t be because of cameras filming signals that were in plain view to 70,000 people in the stadium every Sunday. It will be because his defense could never get back to what it was when they had Law, McGinest, Bruschi, Seymour, Harrison, and Vrabel. End of story.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

No idolization here. I rarely wear a sports jersey with a players name on it for that very reason. I was given a Brady jersey and it only makes it out of the closet for the occasional party where everyone wears a jersey from their favorite team. Even then I’m uncomfortable with it. These guys can be quite flawed in real life. What I said is basically fact though with regard to playing the game and leading his team. The last line about being born triplets is a play on an old “Classie Freddie Blassie” quote, which I threw in there as a parody of the idolization thing. You missed it.

  68. patriotinvasion says: Aug 18, 2013 11:29 AM

I don’t get why Montana’s 4-0 Super Bowl record would trump Brady’s if he wins a 4th and is 4-2. All that would mean is that the 2 years Brady won a Conference Championship and got his team within minutes of another ring, Montana lost in the Playoffs and didn’t even get there. I get the whole undefeated thing, but if you think about it, it’s more of an accomplishment to play in 6 and win 4 than play in only 4 and win 4.

Either way, its seems like a 4th for Brady would make him kind of like Kobe (5-2 in the Finals) and Montana like Jordan (6-0). I’ll take it.
