Tom Brady expected to play tonight

Tom Brady, Josh McDaniels AP

Two days after he caused a panic in New England, Tom Brady is apparently going to be on the field tonight.

According to Albert Breer of the NFL Network, the Patriots are expected to use all three quarterbacks tonight — Brady, Ryan Mallett and Tim Tebow — against the Buccaneers.

Brady was well enough to resume practice yesterday after taking a scary spill in Wednesday’s joint practice with the Bucs, though he was again wearing the knee brace he’s worn in games since his 2008 ACL tear.

Assume he’ll be wearing it tonight, and perhaps any time anyone’s near enough to breathe on him.

There’s nothin’ to see here – move along folks…

  3. iamapatsfan says: Aug 16, 2013 1:26 PM

Ok, we’ve had like 23 news stories since Wednesday about this.

While the first couple were ok, he left with an apparent knee injury, the same knee that got flamigoed way back when. That is important.

Then we had one or 12 about how it wasn’t really that bad and he was going to probably play. THe first one or two were good, but after that?

Now you just keep on going. Please, as a Pats fan, seriously, this is enough.

    Thanks.

CORRECTION: Tom Brady didn’t cause a panic in New England. THE MEDIA did.

  5. justsomerandomguy24 says: Aug 16, 2013 1:26 PM

Good. Like him or not, he is an all-time great, and the game is better when he is playing.

  6. ampats says: Aug 16, 2013 1:28 PM

I wouldn’t be surprised to see TB to play most if not the entire 1st quarter.

    Just protect the franchise !

Dude! Neither Brady or the Patriots played this up. The media are the ones who are riding this for all its worth. Just because you are in love with Manning, doesn’t mean you have to trash Brady…unless you truly are that insecure

  10. jjb0811 says: Aug 16, 2013 1:37 PM

Tom really needs to show his coaches he can play. After 5 Sb trips w/ 3 wins, clearly he needs all the reps in preseason he can get.

Brady put BB in the HoF not the other way around.

  11. natelan69 says: Aug 16, 2013 1:38 PM

Wouldn’t it be super ironic if Brady tore his ACL tonight?

  13. jimmyt says: Aug 16, 2013 1:40 PM

    Free Tim Tebow.

  14. patriots420 says: Aug 16, 2013 1:41 PM

10 Internet dollars says we get another story between now and 8 saying TOM BRADY WILL PLAY TONIGHT, maybe another after that saying TOM BRADY WILL WEAR A KNEE BRACE, afterwards possibly another stating BRADY EXPECTED TO PLAY THREE DRIVES.

We get it, I’m not the only guy who can predict these unnecessary follow-up posts there are a lot of smart readers on here now please let us know instead how our young receivers and defence fares tonight instead of an unnecessary Brady knee post, we know he is great.
    Thank you

Brady never complained once about this. Yesterdays papers. Dig up something more interesting, please.

    hey Blue,

Brady never said a word or complained in the press or made anything out of this other than what it already was – being careful with a knee that had been surgically repaired and rolled up on. ANY player would be careful in that situation.

Furthermore Brady’s never called himself a “warrior” or anything else along those lines. Unlike quite a few other players on other teams.

But hey, if it makes you better to create that image in your mind so you can dislike Brady for a non-existent reason, more power to ya.

  19. cmdrsmooth says: Aug 16, 2013 2:04 PM

So Geno Smith who needs game time experience can’t play with a minor injury, and All World Brady, who doesn’t need preseason will play.

Perhaps Rex should kiss Belichick’s Rings.

As much as dislike the media fo sensationalizing everything…

I’d rather read the headline “Tom Brady expected to play tonight” than what it could easily have been…

“Tim Tebow expected to play tonight.”

  23. bighurt228 says: Aug 16, 2013 2:09 PM

Strap on the brace and let’s get this thing rolling!! We as Pats fans will enjoy watching him play and set records for a few more years and enjoy it. When the best ever straps it on for your team and keeps the team in contention every year a true fan couldn’t ask for more. True class on and off the field.

  24. ravanator says: Aug 16, 2013 2:10 PM

Timmy Tebow performed a miracle and healed Brady’s knee. All hail Timmy T-Dogg. Does not matter who the QB of the Patriots is this season, they will not even make the playoffs without Welker.

“Wouldn’t it be super ironic if Brady tore his ACL tonight?”

In the Alanis Morrisette sense of the word, yes.

However if his knee-brace actually caused him to tear his ACL rather than prevent it–THAT would be ironic.

  32. dallascowboysdishingthereal says: Aug 16, 2013 2:48 PM

Brady is now known as “that QB that starts in front of Tebow.”

    Belichick = “Tebow’s coach”.

    Patriots = “Tebow’s team”

Gisele Bundchen= “The model that’s married to that QB that plays with Tebow”

    Earth = “where tebow lives”

    Tebow is the man.

Guess you don’t realize that almost every receiver on New England, both wideouts and TEs are either new to the team, rookies or was injured all last season.

And the only returning wideout from last year, Edelman, has not been having a good camp and looks to have been bypassed by not only Amendola who was expected to do so, but by all 3 rookie wideouts as well.

The only returning TE is Gronk who hasn’t done anything but spectate during camp while he’s rehabbing.

Brady’s playing to help the new receivers break in and understand the very complex offensive system the Pats have. If it was a year that had returning receivers who knew the system well he probably wouldn’t be playing much.

There’s also the competitor side of Brady. He wants to be on the field every play of every game. Even after a hell of a career already he’s still very hungry for the game.

  37. idothis2 says: Aug 16, 2013 3:14 PM

Then if brady gets injured tonight the seconding will begin. oh wait, the Pats dont get 2nd guessed even after they rewarded “double tap” hernandez

Actually, that would be the Alanis Morrisette sense of the word as well.

True irony would be if Brady thought the brace was stupid and pointless and wore it anyway. Irony is when something happens where the outcome is the opposite of what is expected. In literature, you use words to convey the opposite of their actual meaning.

Actually, kingjamsi, you’re probably right. I did a little investigating after my post and it seems that “situational” irony fits your description. My mistake.

    situational irony

    noun
irony involving a situation in which actions have an effect that is opposite from what was intended, so that the outcome is contrary to what was expected.

Actually Brady has played through a lot of injuries, including most recently a badly separated non-throwing shoulder in 20011, a broken foot in 2010, and broken ribs in 2009. He never missed a game or leaked anything to the media about being hurt to make excuses for his less than Brady like play. In fact, he kept his mouth shut nad played pretty well. As a Football fan, you’ll appreciate him more when he’s gone, just like all the greats, even when they were not your greats… Take that to the bank.

  53. jonnydapat says: Aug 16, 2013 6:28 PM

jjbo811, To say that Tom Brady put Bill Belichick in the Hall of Fame is an asinine statement. Football is a team game and the team is run by B.B., Tom Brady has often said he wouldn’t be where he is if not for Bill B. Where would Tom be if his o-line didn’t give him the time to throw the ball.
