Titans linebacker Akeem Ayers left Saturday’s preseason game with an ankle injury.

Ayers got the game off to a good start, hitting Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton to force an incomplete pass on the Bengals’ third offensive play. But Ayers limped off the field and was taken to the locker room on a cart.

The Titans announced that Ayers had an ankle injury and was questionable to return. It seems highly unlikely that he would return to a preseason game after leaving with an injury, but the fact that the team is suggesting there’s a possibility he could return is a good sign.

Ayers has played in all 32 games and started 29 since the Titans took him in the second round of the 2011 NFL draft. He is projected as Tennessee’s starting strong side linebacker this season.
