Blaine Gabbert sprains thumb on throwing hand

Jaguars quarterback Blaine Gabbert got off to a good start, but he suffered a sprained thumb on his throwing hand in the second quarter of the preseason game against the Jets.

Gabbert left the game and was replaced by Chad Henne, but the Jaguars released a statement saying Henne was going to enter the game at that point in the second quarter anyway. It’s not clear whether Gabbert would have been able to continue playing.

Assuming Gabbert’s thumb is OK, he probably wrapped up the starting quarterback job in Jacksonville with his performance against the Jets: Gabbert went 13-for-16 for 165 yards, with a touchdown and no interceptions. This was about as good as Gabbert has looked.

    Blaine is a real American.

My — those are some snappy uniforms

Doubly impressive when you consider that none of the Jags top three receivers started the game. He was throwing to Allen Reisner, UDFA waiver wire pickup, Mike Brown, UDFA college quarterback, and Ace Sanders who was drafted in the fourth round for his punt return skills.

The uniforms aren’t bad, it’s those goooooooofy helmets! Worst I’ve seen since the Titans helmets.

    Blackmon played.

@dano73eb – Starting receivers were Reisner, Brown, Sanders. Blackmon came in later. He has only had a couple practices this year as well.

    It’s probably for the best.

I can’t be the only one who doesn’t get or care to get this “Real American” gag, right?

Also, I’m fairly certain those uniforms were metioned in the book of Revelations.

Who was that in Gabbert’s uniform? He actually played decent. Henne stunk as usual, which is why Miami cut him.

  15. dan073eb says: Aug 17, 2013 10:55 PM

@thegreatgabbert he was with the 1st stringers, caught all 4 of his passes tonight from Blaine. I know he’s been out with injury. Can’t wait for Cecil to come back too.

  16. cwk22 says: Aug 17, 2013 10:59 PM

Of course he can’t play bad every game. He has to have a good one every once in awhile….

What a joke! New unis..same old jags!! GO BILLS!

Love how thegreatgabbert always feels the need to make it look like a drama unfolding before our eyes. “In spite of the overwhelming odds he had to face: (poor receivers, etc) he once again overcame adversity and proved how great a QB he is!” Ha ha ha ha. Yea right!

When your QB competition is Chad Henne, you can’t avoid being the starting QB.

  22. coltzfan166 says: Aug 18, 2013 2:44 AM

The biggest problem with Blaine Gabbert is he gets injured more often than Kevin Kolb and therefore hasn’t had much of a chance to prove himself since his rookie year.

I wonder if Terry Bradshaw still prefers that kid down in Jacksonville!

The Gabbert is not that Great, he is like Jimmy Clausen lite.

    Jimmy Clausen > Bland Gabbert
