The Falcons may still be able to build their new stadium on their preferred south site, after city officials attempt to broker a deal between the team and the two churches which stood in the way.
According to Katie Leslie of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Atlanta mayor Kasim Reed announced that Mount Vernon Baptist Church had lowered its asking price from $20.4 million to $15.5 million.
The church rejected the Georgia World Congress Center Authority’s initial offer of $6.2 million.
Earlier this month, Reed announced he had negotiated a $19.5 million deal with Friendship Baptist Church on behalf of the team.
Those two churches stood in the way of the Falcons proceeding on their preferred site, which is closer to transit lines.
And if the Falcons can pass the collection plate for Mount Vernon, it appears their plans for the change purse might proceed.
