Report: Champ Bailey’s foot sprain could keep him out “several weeks”

Bailey AP

At a time when the Broncos are worried about shoring up the last line of their defense, they now have a problem one level lower.

With cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie still recovering from a high ankle sprain, future Hall of Famer Champ Bailey could miss “several weeks” with a foot sprain, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The report comes at a time when others are reporting an initial MRI showed no ligament tears in Bailey’s left foot.

Tony Carter will be expected to step up in Bailey’s absence.

The pickings are slim on the open market.  Sheldon Brown and Nate Clements remain the biggest names.  Others will become available as the rosters make the slide from a maximum of 90 to 75 and then to 53.

“Several weeks” as in long enough to avoid being embarrassed by Torrey Smith again.

  16. aaroncurryisbust says: Aug 18, 2013 9:37 PM

Von Miller, worth the entire Seahawks team? That same team that absolutely ravaged the Donkeys starters last night? LMAO!

Is “Champ” ever really gonna be one? Pretty audacious name, wouldn’t ya say?

And isn’t it kinda weird that it has taken 13 years for someone to ask that?

  18. whatwhat2013 says: Aug 18, 2013 11:10 PM

Overrated. Time to retire. Off to bigger and better things. Gotta learn to let go.

  19. whatwhat2013 says: Aug 18, 2013 11:23 PM

Isn’t it weird that someone who is named ‘Champ’ hasn’t won a championship?

I will always love Champ Bailey, he is my favourite NFL player of all time, but at this point in his career if he misses a few games the Broncos will be fine…get healthy CB24

Seattle does have a decent team this year, but with all due respect…. the Broncos beat the Broncos Saturday.

    Dear Champ,

Please get well soon as we need you on the field.

    Sincerely,

All Ravens fans and fans that just like seeing you get smoked.

Pickup any corners Seattle decides to drop

  27. jamaltimore says: Aug 19, 2013 9:07 AM

Hope he’s ready for opening game. He’s old, slow and tired former shell of himself who should have quit after last season’s loss to the Ravens. Torrey smith and Jacoby just abused the old man.

  28. restonraven says: Aug 19, 2013 9:13 AM

Too bad for CB. A great player and good dude. He was involved in a lot of civic/community ventures here in the DC/Baltimore area from his time with the Washington NFL franchise.

That being said, I was really looking forward to watching Torrey Smith light him up again.

  29. baltimoresnativeson says: Aug 19, 2013 9:53 AM

Father time is undefeated. No one can play at a high level forever. RIP to the shut down version of champ. He was a great player.

  30. cfeeley52 says: Aug 19, 2013 10:31 AM

He just wanted an excuse to miss the Ravens game and avoid being embarrassed by Torrey Smith again…

Sack totals don’t mean a thing when you’re sitting on the sidelines because of a suspension…
