Titans believe Kendall Wright suffered knee sprain, not a torn ACL

No team wants to see one of their starting receivers go down with a knee injury.

If said player does hurt his knee, though, the team would always prefer to find out that the injury is a sprain as opposed to a torn ligament. The Titans believe that is how things have played out for Kendall Wright, who left Saturday night’s game against the Bengals in the second quarter. Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean reports that “early indications” are that Wright, who did not report hearing the telltale pop when he got hurt, avoided a torn ACL after having x-rays and an MRI taken of his right knee.

“I am pretty worried about it right now because it is stiff,” Wright said. “I tried to walk on it, but had to get on the cart. ... Hopefully it won’t be bad.”

A sprain would still keep Wright out of the lineup for a while and almost certainly make him a spectator for the team’s two remaining preseason contests. That’s a far better result than all 16 regular season contests, especially since Wright projects as the top receiver for a Tennessee offense that doesn’t need to make things more difficult for itself in a big season for quarterback Jake Locker.
