Welker has “mild” ankle sprain, Bailey has foot sprain

After further review, the Broncos aren’t as screwed as it initially appeared.

Per a league source, receiver Wes Welker has a “mild” right ankle sprain.  Though “no” right ankle sprain would be preferred, “mild” implies that he’ll be back for the regular-season opener in 18 days.

Bailey, whose MRI showed no torn ligaments in his left foot, nevertheless has a sprain of the left foot, per the same source.  His status and availability moving forward aren’t known.

Still regarded as one of the best cover corners in football even at age 35, Bailey had a rough time in January with Ravens receiver Torrey Smith.  It could be even rougher in Week One if Bailey’s foot isn’t 100 percent.

The Welker Curse just lives on an on…

Then why not use the picture where Smith just blows right Bailey leaving him in his dust? That picture makes it looks like Bailey actually made a play in the playoff game.

A sprain means the ligament is stretched, which means it will be loose and weak for a while. It must be compensated for by the muscles around the area affected, and also by other parts of the body picking up the slack (like limping). For guys that need to plant and cut on a dime, this is an issue, and it could be a re-occurring issue for months.

This is what happens when you try to keep your Super Bowl window pried open with aged players. Old rickety ligaments pull and tear and bones break a little easier. This recipe has been tried and failed so many times, you’d think teams would learn.

Horseface thinks because he won a Super Bowl at his ripe old age he can do it with Manning/Welker/Bailey and whatever geriatric he gets to play on the offensive line. It ain’t gonna happen, and this season is going to be another colossal disappointment for Peyton and Bronco fans.

Go ahead and pencil in the broncos at 13-3 and losing in the divisional round…. Again

Raven fans are the NFLs biggest weasels.

No worries, you guys will be eliminated by week 14 for the final wild card spot and your little tin cup crown will be crushed.

I just drafted you yesterday, Welker. Why you wanna mess with me?

  8. gloryfromheaven says: Aug 18, 2013 6:42 PM

Are there actually any decent Seahawk fans out there or do they all get overly hyped and talk trash over a preseason game?

  9. pastabelly says: Aug 18, 2013 6:46 PM

Welker isn’t old. That was a s,art 2-year signing by Denver.

Why is there always somebody on here who feels the need to explain the nature of a sprain or injury like they are a some type of wannabe doctor? Get a life, nobody cares…

How cute. You think that possibly winning a Week 1 matchup against the Ravens will somehow vindicate you and your terrible coaching staff and regular season dynamo quarterback of losing w/ the #1 Seed in the Playoffs.

Win or Lose on Sept. 5th, we still got a ring at your teams expense. Thanks!

okay Smith is fast I will give him that but Bailey was trailing on those plays because he was anticipating safety help over the top that never came. Not saying that Bailey didn’t have some blame on the coverage but not accurate to say that Bailey was burned

Actually he won two straight at a ripe old age and walked off into the sunset successful and rich. What have you done with your life?
As far as colossal disappointment? I said before the season I would be happy if the Broncos won 10 games and made the playoffs. In case you don’t remember, Manning was still a question, and idiots like you kept saying: “Yeah, but one hit to mega head, blah blah blah”. They far exceeded my expectations, and although the end was disappointing, last year was awesome.
So who do you root for by the way?

Wishing you a speedy recovery, Wes, and success with your new team! Except for when you play the Patriots. Gotta be true to my team! You gave us many good years and I, for one, appreciate all you did!

Ok, now everyone stop the “Welker is durable and Amendola is injury-prone” talk.

Steelers will win the division and your lombardi will fade away into a distant memory. After week 1 you will want to start watching reruns from last year. Enjoy your tin foil lombardi.

Why does it have to be tin foil? Oh, wait. Nevermind. Whatever justification eases the pain from the divisional loss and/or nurtures the offseason-long pity party isn’t my business. Good luck week one. If the Ravens lose, I hope we come through Denver again in January. I know Baltimore is the last card you’d want to draw.

It’s Lombardi or bust for the Donkeys this year. Anything short of that is going to disappoint a lot of mile high air breathers. They had HFA in the playoffs last season and got bounced in their first game at home. You’re telling me you weren’t disappointed that they flopped at home in the playoffs because they exceeded your modest preseason expectations. If you keep saying that, I might start to believe you.

Is this not the same team that just got humiliated by the Seahawks, 40-10? I realize it’s pre-season but jeez, have a little self respect, will you? You guys trash talked the Ravens to death and got horsewhipped in double OT. Now, you’re mouthing off on the heels of getting kicked all over the field. Sad.
