Wes Welker has a sprained ankle

Welker AP

It’ll be a little harder for Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning and receiver Wes Welker to work on their chemistry.

Coach John Fox said after Saturday’s loss to the Seahawks that receiver Wes Welker sprained an ankle, and that he’ll be evaluated on Sunday.

Per a league source, the Broncos will know more about Welker’s status later today.  Per a separate source, it’s currently expected to be a day-to-day situation; there’s a chance, however, it could be a week-to-week proposition.

With less than three weeks until the Ravens comes to town, it makes sense to keep a close eye on the situation — especially since as of a week ago Brandon Stokley is no longer available as an emergency replacement.

Oh, he’ll be in Denver that night.  But like Elvis Dumervil, Stokley now plays for Baltimore.

Haters….its an ANKLE SPRAIN that happened in a PRE-SEASON GAME. Not the end of the world by any stretch. Hes not washed up and The Broncos aren’t in a state of emergency. The Seahawks look good, thatd be a better match up in the regular season or playoffs

Why are the Seahawks fans acting like last night meant much of anything? And why are the Pats fans acting like dumping Welker for Amendola was a good idea because of a measly sprained ankle? LOL

  15. badguy711 says: Aug 18, 2013 2:57 PM

Seahawk Fan who thinks the game meant nothing. Something to do while I drank on Saturday, beats watching Cops.

There is nothing as fans, that we are more focused on than Week 2 (I say that ’cause I hope the players and coaches are not underestimating the Panthers in Week 1). Nothing is important until that game, and I won’t be talking about winning the SB, or the sky falling, until then.

    SF/SEA Week 2.

12 of the Broncos 16 games this year will be played on grass. Last year Welker only played 3 games on grass. Field Turf suits Welker’s quick agility better than grass.

ANYBODY who makes any kind of predictions based off of PRE-SEASON………ya’ need to get your head checked.

Ask Lions fans what it’s like when they were pre-season champs at 4-0………….followed up with an 0-16.

couple things first it is a sprained ankle they wouldn’t waste money by picking up someone to replace him in the slot to begin with. Second of all even if he can’t go against Baltimore just put Julius Thomas in the slot. More concerned about the injury to Champ Bailey!

It is only preseason but, I saw very little in the positive direction from last nights beat-down. I doubt Elway did either through the lenses of those binos. Should be some spirited practices at Club Dove this week!

    ______________

Why do people think Amendola is injury prone? He had a freak scenario where his clavicle broke INWARDS toward his trachea (which could have been fatal). No team had any info on how to go about dealing with this type of injury and he was back in 3 weeks. Do your own research, rather than letting fans and the media tell you what your opinions are.

  28. thegronk87 says: Aug 18, 2013 3:54 PM

Seattle even if they get to the SB will have trouble playing outdoors at giants stadium in february, just like they struggled to beat the redskins at fedex field last year. They will be fine as long as they don’t leave seattle.

You’re clueless about Welker if you think that. He missed something like 3 games in 5 years for the Pats and is one tough player. He took many vicious hits on the way to his 5 straight 100+ catch seasons and bounced right back up to make another catch on the next play.

And in case you don’t realize it he’s the only player in league history with that many consecutive 100+ catch seasons. You don’t make that kind of achievement by being a “crybaby”

Impressive comeback but not ALL the facts. He came back fast but then had foot/heel problems later on. Also..just the year before..didnt he dislocate his elbow and miss most the season? So..unless I’m wrong..thats 26 games missed in 2 years. Maybe its bad luck and his recovery is admirable..but whether its right or wrong..thats a pretty bad recent injury history. Not saying he can’t play the full 16 this year..but he’s gotta prove it.

  31. trephi says: Aug 18, 2013 4:57 PM

Edit – sorry…20 missed games for Amendola in last 2 years…still though. Thats significant.

In Bronco-land, it’s ok to get demolished as long as your quarterback is the prototype.

The only team wherein the owner can double as the mascot.
