Barkevious Mingo “feeling really good” after bruised lung

Browns outside linebacker Barkevious Mingo was spitting up blood on the sideline during Cleveland’s preseason game against Detroit, and the team medical staff knew something was seriously wrong.

But after two nights in the hospital with a bruised lung, Mingo says he’s fine.

I’m feeling really good,” he told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “I’d rather be out there, but I’ve got to listen to the doctors and take it slow and easy. I was like this when I was in the hospital that night and I told them I was fine. But they’ve got the got the scans and they made the right call.”

One doctor told the Plain Dealer that the kind of injury Mingo suffered could have led to fatal blood loss if Mingo had tried to keep playing, so this injury was serious business. But while Mingo will miss the rest of the preseason, he sounds optimistic that he’ll be able to play when the season starts.

I’m not surprised. Mingo is built like a DB.

This guy is a class act. Ive been really impressed with what I have seen and heard from him in camp. He has a great work ethic and an even better personality. I sure am glad that we picked him over Dee Milliner. Get well soon Barkevious! CANT WAIT to see ya kick some butt in the Browns new 3-4.

Hard to argue with the hospital when they’ve “got the got the scans”.

I never understand why these coaches put these high round draft picks out there on kick off returns to start there rookie campaign. These plays are for the undrafted rookies and back up DB’s. Never fails cause they always get hurt.

    Just Sayin’..Go Brownies!

i know when his lung was bruised…it was preseason game 1 when he made the tackle on the special teams kick-off play. He took a hit – cuz he was too high…right in the chest.

Time to start wearing that Kevlar vest, or the Lung may not be bruised next time!

He’s just glad he got out of the Cleveland Hospitals with catching a near fatal staph infection.

I accidentally called him “Barkevious Lungo” a couple of days ago.

Can someone please give this kid a sandwich? He looks like something out of a Sally Struthers infomercial….

Hey “Geno Atkins”, staph infections don’t only happen in Cleveland (hospitals)…where r u from?? Do note: “Cleveland” has some of the BEST healthcare in the “world” – ok!!

  15. jrs45 says: Aug 19, 2013 7:47 PM

Could be worse. Doesn’t geno Atkins suffer from the sickle cell trait? 😉

Didn’t multiple Browns players sue then Brown over the years for Staph ?

Medical care for Cleveland is suspect at best for that team.

  17. marjax says: Aug 21, 2013 6:32 AM

The staph infections were pert near a decade ago, and came from one of the Browns training facilities (that has since been more than adequately disinfected and remodeled), and NOT the Cleveland Clinic. Ignorance at its best.
