Report: Barry Cofield has broken hand

Redskins starting nose tackle Barry Cofield exited Monday’s exhibition game vs. Pittsburgh with an injury, the club said earlier on Monday night.

According to Redskins radio reporter Rick “Doc” Walker, and via Chris Russell of ESPN 980 in Washington D.C., Cofield’s injury is a broken right hand. (Walker originally said it was Cofield’s left hand but later corrected his report, according to Russell, and Walker tweeted to that effect as well.)

Per Russell, who cited a report from Walker, Cofield does not believe the injury is a major one.

Cofield, 29, has started all 32 regular-season games since joining Washington in 2011. Chris Neild and Ron Brace are the next two nose tackles on the club’s depth chart.

One of the worst losses we could have. The second in command of our defense.

Depending on the break you can work thru it all year, and it’ll heal in the off season.

    Irrelevant. Redskins still start 0-1.

But I’ll await the words of logical voice and hear her thoughts….

Don’t worry. Logicalvoices told me RG3 is so perfect he’s currently constructing a new hand for Coefield using only his mind and magical powers.

That broken paw won’t stop Barry in the least bit. He abused pouncey.

I miss having him on my team. It isn’t really my team it belongs to the Mara’s but he was a good player still.

Very good player, loved him as a Giant, and really the Giants defense has not been the same since he left.

He really did abuse that offensive line yesterday. Looking forward for his return.

Honestly, how long have you all watched football!? He’s a defensive lineman, he’ll wear a cast and still play!!! He is not lost…

cofield was bossing it up last night

we were pressuring them pretty consistently all night

We are used to QB’s getting the ball out fast. Kerrigans reaction on the pick off Rothlisburger I think surprised Ben how quick it was

Even most Skins fans don’t realize how great he is. When you add up sacks tackles, hurries, and FF’s, Cofield led all 3-4 NT’s with 31. 2nd in the league was Dontari Poe with 11. Hope he gets back soon, this injury could be devastating. Another solid argument against the existence of the preseason. Hate watching star players, from any team, get hurt in a game that doesn’t matter.

I knew he was good, but wow, that is a sick stat! Puts Co in perspective… thanks.

Huge loss. I just hope it’s not for long. Interior 3-4 linemen use their hands more than their 4-3 brethren. I so hope he comes back soon as was in total beast mode last night. RK91 is the only Redskin to have a better showing.

    HTTR!!!
