As it turns out, Texans defensive end Antonio Smith is not going to get away with a slap-on-the-wrist preseason suspension.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Smith will be suspended for one week of the regular season in addition to the next two preseason games for swinging a helmet at the helmetless head of Dolphins guard Richie Incognito. A fine is also expected.

Smith and Incognito have a history, and letting Smith off with just two nights off from meaningless games would have made it a meaningless penalty.

Smith told ESPN.com’s Tania Ganguli after the game that he “took a blow to the head. I can’t remember.”

Now, he’ll have plenty of time to reflect to see if he comes up with anything.
