ReutersBills safety Jairus Byrd has signed his franchise tender, the club announced Tuesday night.
The 26-year-old Byrd has sat out training camp and the club’s first two preseason games without a contract. Now, the Bills’ star safety is back in the fold less than three weeks before Buffalo opens the regular season against New England and Tom Brady.
Byrd has intercepted 18 passes in four NFL seasons. He’s also recorded 308 tackles. He has played every game in each of the last three seasons for Buffalo.
The Bills cannot negotiate a new deal with Byrd until after the season, leaving him to play out 2013 under this contract. He turns 27 in October.
Great news for Bills fans!
Nice, the d has been playing well so far in camp and in the two games so far. He is a playmaker and will help a ton. GO BILLS!
Top 5 Safety, can only help an already improved “looking” D.
Bunch of talent on that defense…we’ll see if they can actually live up to it this year.
I guess from his point of view this was a good play. He missed training camp and 2 preseason games. He if he doesn’t tear, pull, or strain anything, he’ll pocket nearly $7 mil. and coast into the regular season with fresh legs. Of course the fans and the Bills front office would have liked him to have been there since the OTA’s. On the plus side, he’s in the position of really having to play for his next contract now.
What is a troll?
Welcome back.
Hope you had a wonderful summer vacation.
Back to work now.
Is there a more irrelevant team than Buffalo? Mario Williams isn’t worth that money, cheap shot Stevie is always hurt, and their QB situation is dire.
Tear it up Jairus, the Bills could use some good karma!
@snowman36
So by you calling him cheap shot Stevie I’m pretty sure that means your a KC fan who can’t get over a block from 2 seasons ago. And being a KC fan if I was you I would shy away from calling any team irrelevant.
Waiving Rian Lindell cleared $2 million worth of cap space for 2014. I’m sure Whaley used this as leverage to promise Byrd the money he is asking for and get him into camp and learn the new defensive scheme.
@snowman
stevie with 3 straight 1,000 yd seasons an hasnt missed a regular season game bit he’s “always hurt” you sound like another kc fan (a team that is less relevant than buffalo) who is butt hurt from the whooping that buffalo has put them on the last two times they’ve played
@ snowman
Yes, they are the Kansas City Chiefs. You know, the team that finished dead LAST
BYRD is the WORD.
How many games has Stevie missed in his career due to injury? Oh yeah, none. But thanks for playing
Great move. But, i Still can’t get over that they let whitner go though.
4-12 !!!!
Mike Wallace still going to lite up bills secondary…
I hope Byrd gets a new agent before the season ends, he needs a better one. Also hoping Buffalo promises not to Franchise him again next season in turn for staying and signing a long term contract. #CrossingMyFingers
Now he’ll go into the end of the preseason without proper conditioning and a much higher chance of getting injured than guys who did all their off season workouts.
It always seems to me that holdouts get injured at a much higher rate than guys who went through the whole offseason programs.
Lets face it – the guy is the best safety in the NFL … and will look great in aqua and orange next year – sorry Buffalo!
come to the panthers next year
Hopefully he doesnt get injuried and hurt his upcoming payday.
Byrd pulled a Bruce Smith who hated TC and didn’t really do much until the season started. I’m glad he signed but he is way behind the power curve as far as knowing the new defense.
Come to the Eagles next season!!!
Bills Brass 1, Eugene 0
Good to have you back Jarius! Kick some tail feathers!
Safe to say this tender Byrd isn’t leaving the nest for at least a little longer.
Its about time!!!! But you should have signed more than a 1 year contract…..
I’m rooting for the bills to be second in the afc east. Give those jets and dolphins some whatfore!
Welcome back Jairus you are awesome. @footballady52
Glad to see that he signed. Now all he has to do is learn the new schemes. If his rookie season is any indication I am sure he will pick it up quick. Makes that Defense even better.
A-well-a, everybody’s heard about the Byrd
Byrd, Byrd, Byrd, B-Byrd’s the word
